Published: November 2022

The genus Raffray includes 19 species distributed in the Oriental Region. Here, the first species from continental China, Yin & Zhao , is described and illustrated from West Tianmu Mountain. This species can be readily separated from all congeners by the coarse vestiture, along with its male features. A previous key to species of East and South Asia is modified to accommodate the new species.

Diseases associated with porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) and pseudorabies virus (PRV) significantly affect the economy of pig farms, particularly when combined infections lead to bacterial co-infections. Antigens from the pseudorabies variant strain gB and gD proteins and PCV2 (genotyped) Cap protein were mixed with the pattern recognition receptor (PRR) agonist FLICd as adjuvants and formulated with a micro-hydrogel adjuvant into PCV2 and PRV bivalent subunit vaccines. Twenty pigs, aged 30-35 days, were divided into groups A (received bivalent subunit vaccine) and B (received bivalent subunit vaccines with recombinant FLICd adjuvant), as well as C (non-vaccinated challenge control) and D (blank control).

Understanding how environmental heterogeneity drives microbial communities in lakes is essential for developing effective strategies to manage and restore aquatic ecosystems. However, the mechanisms by which environmental heterogeneity influences microbial community structure, network patterns, and interactions remain largely unexplored. To bridge this gap, we collected 84 water samples from four typical lakes in China (Fuxian, Tianmu, Taihu, and Xingyun) representing a range of trophic levels, across wet and dry seasons.

College of Animal Sciences, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Human toxocariasis, caused by Toxocara roundworms from pets, affects 1.4 billion people and leads to serious health issues in humans, including visceral and cerebral larva migrans.
  • The study involved sequencing small RNAs to identify specific microRNAs (miRNAs) in the larvae and infected mice, finding significant changes in miRNA levels that correlate with the disease's progression in the mice.
  • Two particular murine miRNAs (miR-26b-5p and miR-122-5p) were identified as potential biomarkers for diagnosing toxocariasis, providing insights into the host-parasite interactions.*

By analyzing the effects of acid rain and nitrogen deposition on the structure and diversity of soil bacterial communities, the response mechanism of Masson pine forests to environmental stress was investigated, providing a theoretical reference basis for resource management and conservation in Tianmu Mountain National Nature Reserve. Four treatments of the simulated acid rain and nitrogen deposition were set up in 2017 to 2021 in Tianmu Mountain National Nature Reserve (pH value of 5.5 and 0 kg·(hm·a), CK; pH value of 4.

[Spatio-temporal Characteristics of Organic Aggregates and the Driving Factors in Typical Lakes].

State Key Laboratory of Lake Science and Environment, Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing 210008, China.

Organic aggregates (OA) are the important circulation hub of matter and energy in aquatic ecosystems. However, the comparison studies on OA in lakes with different nutrient levels are limited. In this study, spatio-temporal abundances of OA and OA-attached bacteria (OAB) in oligotrophic Lake Fuxian, mesotrophic Lake Tianmu, middle-eutrophic Lake Taihu, and hyper-eutrophic Lake Xingyun were investigated in different seasons during 2019-2021 using a scanning electron microscope, epi-fluorescence microscope, and flow cytometry.
