Conductive covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have received considerable attention and are critical in various applications such as electro-enhanced solid-phase microextraction (EE-SPME). In this work, a novel piperazine-linked copper-doped phthalocyanine metal covalent organic framework (CuPc-MCOF) was synthesized with good stability and high electrical conductivity. The synthesized CuPc-MCOF was then used as an EE-SPME coating material for extraction of five trace chlorophenols (CPs), including 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP), 2,6-dichlorophenol (2,6-DCP), 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP), 2,4,5-trichlorophenol (2,4,5-TCP) and 2,4,5,6-tetrachlorophenol (2,4,5,6-TCP), exhibiting excellent extraction performance because of various synergistic forces between CuPc-MCOF fibers and CPs. By combining EE-SPME with gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS), a sensitive method for CPs detection was established with a low limit of detection (0.8-5 ng L) and good reproducibility (RSD≤8.4%, n = 3). This method was then successfully applied to the analysis of trace CPs in real samples of seawater and seafood. Results showed that the developed CuPc-MCOF coating material possessed superior extraction performance and potential application in extraction of trace polar pollutants from complex samples.

Efficient enrichment of analytes and purification of matrices are crucial for the highly sensitive detection and monitoring of pesticides in traditional Chinese herbs. This work prepared magnetic ionic liquid-controlled covalent organic framework (IL-COF@FeO) as the sorbent via a simple in-situ precipitation polymerization and thiolene "click" strategy. The IL-COF@FeO exhibited remarkable adsorption performance towards pyrethroids within 5 min.

3D N-heterocyclic covalent organic frameworks for urea photosynthesis from NH and CO.

Artificial photosynthesis of urea from NH and CO seems to remain still essentially unexplored. Herein, three isomorphic three-dimensional covalent organic frameworks with twofold interpenetrated ffc topology are functionalized by benzene, pyrazine, and tetrazine active moieties, respectively. A series of experiment results disclose the gradually enhanced conductivity, light-harvesting capacity, photogenerated carrier separation efficiency, and co-adsorption capacity towards NH and CO in the order of benzene-, pyrazine-, and tetrazine-containing framework.

As bacterial contamination crises escalate, the development of advanced membranes possessing both high flux and antibacterial properties is of paramount significance for enhancing water sterilization efficiency. Herein, an ultrathin layer of TbPa (an imine-linked covalent organic framework) and nanosized CuO clusters, sequentially deposited onto polyethersulfone membranes, demonstrate exceptional water flux performance, reaching a permeance level of 16000 LHM bar. The deposited TbPa, generating uniformly distributed reduction sites under illumination, facilitates the uniform formation of CuO clusters.

This study investigates simple acetylenes substituted with phenylurea as a constant H-bonding unit (Alk-R) and varied hydrophobic units (R = H, Phenyl (Ph), Phenylacetylene (PA), Ph-NMe2) to understand self-assembly properties driven by synergistic non-covalent interactions. Our observations reveal hierarchical self-assembled fibrillar networks with luminescent needles, fibers, and flowers on nano- to micro-meter scales. Subtle changes in substituents led to significant differences: H, Ph, PA, and Ph-NMe2 produced needle-like crystals, dendritic nanofibers, microflakes, and no self-assembly, respectively.

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are regarded as the potential alternative of lithium-ion batteries due to their ultrahigh theoretical specific capacity (3860 mAh g-1). However, severe instability and safety problems caused by the dendrite growth and inevitable side reactions have hindered the commercialization of LMBs. To solve them, in this contribution, a design strategy of soluble lithiophilic covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is proposed.
