The C-H bond dissociation energy (BDE) of drug molecules is often used to estimate their relative propensities to undergo autoxidation. BDE calculations based on electronic structures provide a convenient means to estimate the risk for a given compound to degrade via autoxidation. This study aimed to verify the utility of calculated C-H BDEs of a range of drug molecules in predicting their autoxidation propensities, in the solution state. For the autoxidation study, 2,2'-azobis (2-methylpropionitrile) was employed as the solution state stressor, and the experimental reaction rate constants were determined employing ultraperformance liquid chromatographic (UPLC) methods. Reaction rates in the solution state were compared to the calculated C-H BDE values of the respective compounds. The results indicated a poor correlation for compounds in the solution state, and their relative stabilities could not be explained with C-H BDE. On the other hand, a favorable relationship was observed between the relative extent of ionization and the autoxidation rates of the selected compounds. In the solution state, factors such as the type and extent of drug ionization, degree and type of solvation have been shown to contribute to differences in reactivity. By applying the computational method involving the effect of H-atom abstraction and potential ionization sites in the molecule, the calculated C-H BDE should relate better to the experimental autoxidation rates.

Weighted Echo State Graph Neural Networks Based on Robust and Epitaxial Film Memristors.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

Hardware system customized toward the demands of graph neural network learning would promote efficiency and strong temporal processing for graph-structured data. However, most amorphous/polycrystalline oxides-based memristors commonly have unstable conductance regulation due to random growth of conductive filaments. And graph neural networks based on robust and epitaxial film memristors can especially improve energy efficiency due to their high endurance and ultra-low power consumption.

Transitioning to a power system heavily reliant on renewable wind energy involves more than just replacing conventional fossil-fuel-based power plant with wind farms, the wind energy must be able to meet the requirement of voltage establishment and power balance. It is believed that the self synchronized voltage source control of DFIG wind turbine generator is one of the possible solutions to realize virtual inertia and is helpful to increase the frequency stability of power system, thus is meaningful in the transformation of the power system dominated by renewable energy. Plenty of research has been conducted on the self synchronized voltage source control strategy in steady state, but few research is focused on the soft grid integration, which is a complicated process involving wind turbine control and power converter control.

Historical redlining and clustering of present-day breast cancer factors.

Cancer Causes Control

January 2025

Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health, School of Public Health and Health Professions, State University of New York at Buffalo, 265 Farber Hall, Buffalo, NY, 14214, USA.

Purpose: Historical redlining, a 1930s-era form of residential segregation and proxy of structural racism, has been associated with breast cancer risk, stage, and survival, but research is lacking on how known present-day breast cancer risk factors are related to historical redlining. We aimed to describe the clustering of present-day neighborhood-level breast cancer risk factors with historical redlining and evaluate geographic patterning across the US.

Methods: This ecologic study included US neighborhoods (census tracts) with Home Owners' Loan Corporation (HOLC) grades, defined as having a score in the Historic Redlining Score dataset; 2019 Population Level Analysis and Community EStimates (PLACES) data; and 2014-2016 Environmental Justice Index (EJI) data.

Stress-induced self-assembly of hierarchically twisted stripe arrays.

Sci Bull (Beijing)

Department of Chemistry, Laboratory of Advance Materials, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Molecular Catalysis and Innovative Materials, State Key Laboratory of Molecular Engineering of Polymers, and iChEM, Fudan University, Shanghai 200433, China. Electronic address:

Hierarchical organization is prevalent in nature, yet the artificial construction of hierarchical materials featuring asymmetric structures remains a big challenge. Herein, we report a stress-induced self-assembly strategy for the synthesis of hierarchically twisted stripe arrays (HTSAs) with mesoporous structures. A soft and thin mesostructured film assembled by micelles and TiO oligomers is the prerequisite.

Complex wound closure scenarios necessitate the development of advanced wound dressings that can effectively address the challenges of filling irregularly shaped wounds and managing fatigue failures encountered in daily patient activities. To tackle these issues, we develop a multifunctional hydrogel from natural polysaccharides and polypeptides with injectability and self-healing properties for promoting full-time and multipurpose wound healing. Synthesized through dynamic Schiff base linkages between oxidized hyaluronic acid (OHA), ε-polylysine (ε-PL), and quaternized chitosan (QCS), the OHA/ε-PL/QCS hydrogel can gel rapidly within 50 s.
