Objective: To accelerate the onset of systemic lupus erythematosus in C57BL/6 mice by injecting cadmium chloride nanoemulsion and shorten the traditional modeling time.
Methods: Pristane cadmium chloride nanoemulsion was prepared, and 66 C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into four groups. The pristane group was intraperitoneally injected with 0.6 mL of pristane blank nanoemulsion, the model group was injected with 0.6 mL of pristane cadmium chloride nanoemulsion, the Cadmium chloride control group was injected with 0.6 mL of cadmium chloride nanoemulsion, and the control group was injected with the same amount of 0.9% sodium chloride solution. Urine protein content, anti-dsDNA antibody content, Th1 cell/Th2 cell ratio, and kidney staining were detected in each group.
Results: The model group began to develop disease in the 4th week, the anti-dsDNA antibody level reached 566.71 ± 1.44 ng/L, and the proteinuria reached 245.38 ± 30.54 ng/mL. The model group showed an onset at least 5 weeks earlier than that in the pristane group. There was no significant difference in anti-dsDNA antibody content between Cadmium chloride control group and blank group. At the 12th week, the Th1/Th2 cell ratio in the model group significantly decreased, and the pathological changes in the kidneys were consistent with the typical manifestations of lupus in mouse models.
Conclusion: These results suggest that cadmium chloride promotes earlier onset of pristane-induced systemic lupus erythematosus in a C57BL/6 mouse model.

Cadmium (Cd), one of the toxic heavy metals, is of great importance for public health due to its use in many industrial areas. Propolis is a natural product with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties collected from plants by honey bees. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective role of propolis against the potential toxic effects of cadmium chloride in blood, liver and kidney tissues.

Serious neurological disorders were associated with cadmium toxicity. Hence, this research aimed to investigate the potential neuroprotective impacts of the ethanolic extracts of Citrus aurantium unripe fruits and leaves (CAF and CAL, respectively) at doses 100 and 200 mg/kg against cadmium chloride-provoked brain dysfunction in rats for 30 consecutive days. HPLC for natural pigment content revealed that CAF implied higher contents of Chlorophyll B, while the CAL has a high yield of chlorophyll A and total carotenoid.

Soil pollution by microplastics (MPs) and cadmium (Cd) poses significant threats to agricultural production, yet their combined toxicity and underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, we examined the effects of three types of MPs-polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polypropylene (PP)-with particle sizes of 150 μm and 10 μm, in combination with Cd stress (5 mg/kg) on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) growth.

Vascular-like tissues composed of cells maintaining their shape and structure at any position in a culture dish without the use of gels or other artificial materials are ideal vascular models to test the effects of candidate drugs on cells without adsorption by artificial materials and analysis of structural changes over time. In this study, we aimed to prepare fiber-shaped cell aggregates composed of human umbilical vein endothelial and mesenchymal stem cells as vascular pericytes anchored to the bottom of culture dishes at a defined location using our developed cell self-aggregation technique and dumbbell-shaped culture groove. The fiber-shaped cell aggregates maintained their shape for at least two weeks without rupture, and histological analysis revealed that they formed a unique tissue structure with a gapless endothelial layer on the outer surface and capillary-like structures oriented in the same direction as the long axis of the fiber in the medial side.
