Classical neural architecture models of speech production propose a single system centred on Broca's area coordinating all the vocal articulators from lips to larynx. Modern evidence has challenged both the idea that Broca's area is involved in motor speech coordination and that there is only one coordination network. Drawing on a wide range of evidence, here we propose a dual speech coordination model in which laryngeal control of pitch-related aspects of prosody and song are coordinated by a hierarchically organized dorsolateral system while supralaryngeal articulation at the phonetic/syllabic level is coordinated by a more ventral system posterior to Broca's area. We argue further that these two speech production subsystems have distinguishable evolutionary histories and discuss the implications for models of language evolution.

In this investigation, we delve into the neural underpinnings of auditory processing of Sanskrit verse comprehension, an area not previously explored by neuroscientific research. Our study examines a diverse group of 44 bilingual individuals, including both proficient and non-proficient Sanskrit speakers, to uncover the intricate neural patterns involved in processing verses of this ancient language. Employing an integrated neuroimaging approach that combines functional connectivity-multivariate pattern analysis (fc-MVPA), voxel-based univariate analysis, seed-based connectivity analysis, and the use of sparse fMRI techniques to minimize the interference of scanner noise, we highlight the brain's adaptability and ability to integrate multiple types of information.

Background: The Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS) is an established cohort of aging persons (mean age 72 years) with prediabetes and diabetes with a mean of 23 (range 21-25) years of follow-up. DPPOS added neuropsychological testing using the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) Uniform Data Set (UDSv3) forms. Using the NACC UDS required implementing a standardized neurological examination across 25 US clinical sites, administered by project coordinators (PC).

Background: Vitamin D plays a pivotal role in early childhood development, influencing skeletal strength, neuromuscular coordination, and neurodevelopment. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of different durations of Vitamin D supplementation on achieving developmental milestones.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 209 children, divided into two cohorts based on Vitamin D supplementation duration: six months ( = 102) and twelve months ( = 107).

A specific deletion on the short arm of chromosome 5 (5p) is the hallmark of the rare genetic syndrome called Cri du Chat Syndrome (CdCS). It causes severe difficulty with swallowing, speech, motor skills, and cognitive deficiencies. These arise from characteristic laryngeal abnormalities and oral-motor dysfunctions.
