The structural characterization of branched polymers still poses experimental challenges despite their technological potential. This lack of clarity is egregious in linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), a common industrial plastic. Here, we design a coarse-grain, implicit solvent molecular dynamics model for LLDPE in 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene, a canonical good solvent, that replicates all-atom simulations and experiments. We employ this model to test the relationship between the contraction factors, the ratios of branched to linear dilute solution properties. In particular, we relate the contraction factor of the radius of gyration to that of the intrinsic viscosity and the hydrodynamic radius. The contraction exponents are constant as we vary branch length and spacing in contrast to theoretical expectations. We use this observation to develop a general theory for the dilute solution properties of linear polymers with linear side-chain branches, comb-like macromolecules, in a good solvent and validate the theory by generating master curves for LLDPE.

-Iodosuccinimide-promoted cascade reactions of arylidene isoxazolones with amidines in -xylene were accomplished, affording 5-acylimidazoles in good to excellent yields. Interestingly, when the reactions were performed by employing acetonitrile as the solvent, 4-acylimidazoles were efficiently obtained. Mechanistic studies indicate that the formation of imidazolyl and acyl moieties may undergo a spiroannulation-ring opening aromatization-hydrolysis cascade reaction sequence.

Background: Doxorubicin (DOX) is a potent chemotherapeutic agent for breast cancer, but its effectiveness is often diminished by resistance mechanisms, particularly through p-glycoprotein (P-gp) mediated drug efflux. Clarithromycin (CAM), a macrolide antibiotic, inhibits multiple metabolic pathways including CYP3A and P-gp, potentially countering DOX resistance.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the potentiation of DOX and its effectiveness against the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line by encapsulating both DOX and CAM in PEGylated liposomes.

Catalytic depolymerization is a favorable option for the valorization of industrial lignin. In this study, a new strategy was demonstrated for the efficient reductive depolymerization of industrial lignin based on a complex solvent of choline chloride-lactic acid (ChCl-LA) DES integrated with ethanol and a C-supported N-doped niobium-based catalyst with industrial lignin as carbon source (NBC@N-LC). It was found that the introduction of ethanol significantly improved the conversion of industrial lignin in ChCl-LA.

As a veterinary drug, sulfamethazine is frequently used to control animal diseases. In this study, a novel molecularly imprinted photonic crystal sensor for the fast visual detection of sulfamethazine in milk and chicken has been developed. Under optimum preparation conditions, a molecularly imprinted, photonic crystal with an anti-opal structure and a clear bright color was prepared and characterized.

Lipid peroxidation is a major process that determines the quality of various oil samples during their use and storage, in which the primary products are hydroperoxides (HP'). HP' are very stable compounds at ambient conditions and are harmful to human health. Therefore, the evaluation of the degree of oil oxidation is an excellent tool for ensuring food safety.
