Azeotropic organic solvent mixture separation is common in the chemical industry but extremely difficult. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) shows great potential in organic solvent mixture separation due to its rigid micropores and excellent stability. However, due to the fast nucleation rate, it is a great challenge to prepare continuous ZIF-67 membrane layers with ultrathin thickness. In this study, a hydroxy salt layer with high inducible activity was synthesized as a precursor on different porous substrates to prepare ZIF-67 membranes at room temperature. The precursor layer enables an intact ZIF-67 membrane with an ultrathin thickness of 176±12 nm. The experimental and simulation results confirmed that the size sieving through the pore windows and the preferential adsorption of polar solvent molecules provide the ZIF-67 membrane an unprecedented separation performance such as high separation factors and fluxes, for four types of azeotropic organic solvent mixtures.

The successful development of a metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived Co/CoO/C core-shell composite integrated into laser-induced graphitic (LIG) carbon electrodes for electrochemical sensing is reported. The sensors are fabricated via a direct laser scribing technique using a UV laser (355 nm wavelength) to induce the photothermolysis of rationally selected ZIF-67 into the LIG matrix. Electrochemical characterization reveals that the incorporation of the laser-scribed ZIF-67-derived composite on the electrode surface reduces the impedance more than 100 times compared with bare LIG sensors.

The heat and corrosion resistance of traditional membranes is inadequate, thus making them inadequate for the separation/filtration needs of harsh environments. Polyphenylene sulfide(PPS) can be used to develop new-generation membrane materials, but PPS has problems such as hydrophobicity and UV resistance. This article proposes a PPS membrane for efficient separation/filtration under extreme conditions, which uses melt-blown PPS non-woven fabric and undergoes oxidation and nitrification modification.

Porous coordination polymers with excellent molecular sieving ability, high dispersibility, and good compatibility with engineered polymer matrices hold promise for various industrial applications, such as gas separation and battery separators. Here, an in situ defect engineering approach is proposed for highly processable cobalt (Co)-based zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) with enhanced molecular sieving ability and water stability. By varying alkylamine (AA) modulators, the pore structures and textural properties of ZIFs can be fine-tuned.

A straightforward approach to fabricating robust and versatile solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fibers is crucial for the extensive research and application of this notable sample preparation technique. Herein, we proposed a strategy for preparation of oxidative polyacrylonitrile (O-PAN) and O-PAN/ZIF-67 nanofiber-based SPME coatings by wrapping an electrospinning membrane on the stainless-steel wire, following with thermal oxidation at 300 °C. The shrinkage of membrane during thermal treatment resulted in the nanofibers being securely affixed to the stainless-steel wire, thereby creating a robust nanofiber-based SPME fiber.

Developing cost-effective ruthenium (Ru)-based HER electrocatalysts as alternatives to commercial Pt/C is crucial for the advancement of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE). However, the strong hydrogen adsorption of Ru-based catalysts restricts its activity. Herein, a strategy is reported to tune the electronic structure and improve mass transfer by implanting Ru atoms onto the (002) facet of two-dimensional zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (Ru@LZIF) to optimize the d-band center (ε) of Ru and the hydrogen spillover behavior.
