Haemophilus influenzae causes serious invasive disease in children and is described as an infrequent cause of neonatal early-onset sepsis (EOS). Here we present the clinical and microbiologic features of 10 cases of EOS due to H. influenzae in Utah.

Background: Neonatal sepsis is a leading cause of death in low- and middle- income countries (LMIC). Increasing antibiotic resistance in early onset (< 72 h of life) bloodstream infection (EO-BSI) pathogens in LMIC has reduced the effectiveness of the recommended empiric antibiotic regimen (ampicillin plus gentamicin).

Methods: We retrospectively analysed blood culture-confirmed EO-BSI episodes at nine neonatal units from three central and six peripheral hospitals in the Western Cape Province, South Africa between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2018.

Background: Neonatal sepsis is a serious condition with high rates of morbidity and mortality, caused by the rapid growth of microorganisms that trigger a systemic reaction. Symptoms can range from mild to severe presentations. The causative microorganism is usually transmitted from mothers, especially from the urogenital tract, or can originate from the community or hospital.

Background: Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is the most common cause of neonatal early onset sepsis in term infants and a major cause of late onset sepsis in both term and preterm infants.

Aim: To estimate the incidence of GBSS among neonates born in Qatar between July 2015 and June 2020 (5 years). A secondary aim was to describe the outcomes of the affected babies.

Introduction: To determine the threshold of umbilical cord blood procalcitonin for early-onset neonatal infection diagnosis.

Method: This prospective study was conducted on 126 neonates in the neonatal care unit of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Vietnam, from June 01, 2023 to August 31, 2024. All neonates showed signs at birth or risk factors for early-onset infection (EOI) and were divided into two groups: EOI group and non-EOI group.

Background: Neonatal sepsis is a significant cause of mortality in children under 5 years of age globally, with the highest incidence reported in India. The challenges in diagnosing neonatal sepsis often result in the irrational use of antibiotics. The aim of the study was to determine the diagnostic efficacy of interleukin 27 (IL-27) as a novel biomarker for the early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis.
