The production of ecologically compatible fuels by electrochemical water splitting is highly desirable for modern industry. The Zhang-Rice singlet is well known for the superconductivity of high-temperature superconductors cuprate, but is rarely known for an electrochemical catalyst. Herein, we observe two steps of surface reconstruction from initial catalytic inactive Cu in hydrogen treated CuO to Cu state and further to catalytic active Zhang-Rice singlet state during the oxygen evolution reaction for water splitting. The hydrogen treated CuO catalyst exhibits a superior catalytic activity and stability for water splitting and is an efficient rival of other 3d-transition-metal catalysts. Multiple operando spectroscopies indicate that Zhang-Rice singlet is real active species, since it appears only under oxygen evolution reaction condition. This work provides an insight in developing an electrochemical catalyst from catalytically inactive materials and improves understanding of the mechanism of a Cu-based catalyst for water oxidation.

"Dual Perspectives" integrates multiple MRI scans, creating a nuanced synthesis of grey matter and diffusion-based regional connections. This rendering holds particular significance in the realm of Alzheimer's and dementia research by offering a comprehensive examination of data crucial for understanding these complex neurodegenerative conditions. The inclusion of grey matter provides a detailed insight into the structural composition of the brain.

Conjugated polymers, represented by polymeric carbon nitrides (PCNs), have risen to prominence as new-generation photocatalysts for overall water splitting (OWS). Despite considerable efforts, achieving highly crystalline PCNs with minimal structural defects remains a great challenge, and it is also difficult to examine the exact impact of complex defect states on OWS process, which largely limits their quantum efficiency. Herein, we devise a 'in-situ salt flux' assisted copolymerization protocol by using nitrogen-rich and nitrogen-deficient monomers to precisely manipulate the structural defects of poly (triazine imide) (PTI) single crystals.

The strategic design and fabrication of efficient electrocatalysts are pivotal for advancing the field of electrochemical water splitting (EWS). To enhance EWS performance, integrating non-noble transition metal catalysts through a cooperative double metal incorporation strategy is important and offers a compelling alternative to conventional precious metal-based materials. This study introduces a novel, straightforward, single-step process for fabricating a bimetallic MoCo catalyst integrated within a three-dimensional (3D) nanoporous network of N, P-doped carbon nitride derived from a self-contained precursor.

The efficiency of ultrafiltration (UF) of acidified skim milk (SM) is impaired by protein aggregation and mineral scaling. The aim of this study is to assess the potential of acidification by electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM), in comparison with citric acid (CA), prior to the UF process on filtration performance, fouling and composition of the protein concentrates. Electro-acidification, facilitated by a water-splitting reaction, decreased the pH of milk to ∼ 5.

The preparation strategy is the important factor to obtain the effective photocatalyst, and the thermal decomposition could be used to prepare photocatalysts with high crystallinity and photoactivity. In this paper, thermal decomposition method was used to deposit CuO nanoparticles on TiO nanotube arrays (TiO NTs), and the TiO NTs/CuO exhibited remarkably high visible light absorption and photoelectrocatalytic performances toward dye degradation and Cr(VI) reduction. The potential degradation pathway and toxicities of rhodamine B (RhB) dyes and intermediates were investigated.
