Rechargeable aqueous Zn-VO batteries are attracting attention in large scale energy storage applications. Yet, the sluggish Zn diffusion kinetics and ambiguous structure-property relationship are always challenging to fulfil the great potential of the batteries. Here we electrodeposit vanadium oxide nanobelts (VO-E) with highly disordered structure. The electrode achieves high capacities (e.g., ≈5 mAh cm , 516 mAh g ), good rate and cycling performances. Detailed structure analysis indicates VO-E is composed of integrated amorphous-crystalline nanoscale domains, forming an efficient heterointerface network in the bulk electrode, which accounts for the good electrochemical properties. Theoretical calculations indicate that the amorphous-crystalline heterostructure exhibits the favorable cation adsorption and lower ion diffusion energy barriers compared to the amorphous and crystalline counterparts, thus accelerating charge carrier mobility and electrochemical activity of the electrode.

Optoelectronic synaptic devices have been regarded as the key component in constructing neuromorphic computing systems. However, the optoelectronic synapses based on conventional 2D transistor are still suffering low photosensitivity and volatile retention behavior, which can affect the recognition accuracy and long-term memory. Here, a novel optoelectronic synaptic device based on surface-state-rich CdSe nanobelt photosensitized 2D MoS transistor is demonstrated.

Flash memory, dominating data storage due to its substantial storage density and cost efficiency, faces limitations such as slow response, high operating voltages, absence of optoelectronic response, etc., hindering the development of sensing-memory-computing capability. Here, we present an ultrathin platinum disulfide (PtS)/hexagonal boron nitride (hBN)/multilayer graphene (MLG) van der Waals heterojunction with atomically sharp interfaces, achieving selective charge tunneling behavior and demonstrating ultrafast operations, a high on/off ratio (10), extremely low operating voltage, robust endurance (10 cycles), and retention exceeding 10 years.

Currently, existing iontronic systems are limited and struggle to process electronic-to-multi-ionic transport, resulting in interchange inefficiencies and incompatibilities between artificial ion devices and biological tissue interfaces. The development of heterogating gel iontronics offers a significant advancement in bridging this gap, drawing inspiration from the complex ionic transmission mechanisms found in biological synapses within neural networks. These heterogating gels utilize a biphasic architecture, where the heterointerface effect constructs ionic transfer energy barriers, enabling distinct signal transmission among different ions.

Heterogeneous interfacial engineering has garnered widespread attention for optimizing polarization loss and enhancing the performance of electromagnetic wave absorption. A novel Kirkendall effect-assisted electrostatic self-assembly method is employed to construct a metal-organic framework (MOF, MIL-88A) decorated with Ni-Fe layered double hydroxide (LDH), forming a multilayer nano-cage coated with TiCT. By modulating the surface adsorption of TiCT on LDH, the heterointerfaces in MOF-LDH-MXene ternary composites exhibit excellent interfacial polarization loss.

Aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) have received a lot of attention in electrochemical energy storage systems for their low cost, environmental compatibility, and good safety. However, cathode materials still face poor material stability and conductivity, which cause poor reversibility and poor rate performance in AZIBs. Herein, a heterogeneous structure combined with cation pre-intercalation strategies was used to prepare a novel CaVO·3HO@NiVO·nHO material (CaNiVO) for high-performance Zn storage.
