A simple expression for the correlations of beams radiated by Schell-model sources carrying a prescribed astigmatic phase (cross phase) in 3D space is derived. The z-coherence of such sources upon free-space propagation is investigated in detail. It is demonstrated that the z-coherence does not decrease to zero with an increasing separation of two axial points. Our results show that the initial cross phase, coherence, and correlation state of such sources affect the distribution of the z-coherence. Furthermore, the cross phase plays a role in maintaining z-coherence, which will be useful in applications where high z-coherence is required.

The perception of objects is a challenging task that requires recognizing visual elements and integrating them into a whole. While human vision prioritizes attention to the overall configuration, data from other species suggests this bias towards global form perception is not universal. Studies with pigeons indicate preferential attention to local details when both local and global information may be diagnostic, but studies with other bird species are more limited.

Thin-film composite polyamide (TFC PA) membranes hold promise for energy-efficient liquid separation, but achieving high permeance and precise separation membrane via a facile approach that is compatible with present manufacturing line remains a great challenge. Herein, we demonstrate the use of lignin alkali (LA) derived from waste of paper pulp as an aqueous phase additive to regulate interfacial polymerization (IP) process for achieving high performance nanofiltration (NF) membrane. Various characterizations and molecular dynamics simulations revealed that LA can promote the diffusion and partition of aqueous phase monomer piperazine (PIP) molecules into organic phase and their uniform dispersion on substrate, accelerating the IP reaction and promoting greater interfacial instabilities, thus endowing formation of TFC NF membrane with an ultrathin, highly cross-linked, and crumpled PA layer.

This study systematically assessed the performance of a newly developed solid-phase extraction (SPE) material, cellulose-supported aminated β-cyclodextrin polymer (amine-β-CDP@Cellulose), in determining 44 xenobiotics, encompassing endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), pharmaceuticals, and food additives in urine samples. The primary objective of the research was to synthesize a new sorbent, optimize the extraction protocol, and elucidate the underlying adsorption and desorption mechanisms. Following optimization, it was observed that amine-β-CDP@Cellulose achieved recoveries ranging from 80 % to 120 % for 28 of the 44 targeted xenobiotics, with only three compounds showing recoveries below 50 %.
