Article Abstract

We describe a promising fish probiotic, Bacillus pacificus CR121, which was isolated from the intestine of a healthy Indian major carp species, rohu (Labeo rohita) and shown to possess disease prevention efficacy in and Oreochromis niloticus. The genome sequence information will help us make use of the probiotic potential of this strain.

Hard ticks (family Ixodidae) are one of the most predominant arthropod disease vectors worldwide, second only to mosquitoes. In addition to harboring animal and human pathogens, ticks are known to carry a microbial community constituted of non-pathogenic organisms, which includes maternally inherited intracellular endosymbionts and other environmentally acquired extracellular microorganisms. These microbial communities, which include bacteria, viruses, protozoans, and fungi-with often commensal, mutualistic, or parasitic associations with the tick-comprise the tick microbiome, bacteria being the most studied community.

Characterization of G124 and Its Promoting Role in Plant Growth and Drought Tolerance.

Plants (Basel)

October 2024

State Key Laboratory of Plateau Ecology and Agriculture, Qinghai University, Xining 810016, China.

Article Synopsis
  • * G124 was isolated from a dry area in Qinghai, showing a high genetic similarity to EB422 and exhibiting characteristics that promote plant growth, such as producing beneficial compounds and improving nutrient availability.
  • * In experiments, G124 inoculation led to improved plant growth metrics (height, leaf area) and increased resilience, showing its potential application in agricultural practices for managing crops in drought-stricken environments.

The extensive use of various chemicals in synthetic plastics is toxic and threatens the biosphere. To address this, the study aimed to isolate, screen, characterize, optimize, and quantify polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB)-producing bacteria using cost-effective residues. Isolated from a landfill site, the Gram-positive, rod-shaped, spore-forming, motile bacterium with intracellular PHB granules was identified as Bacillus pacificus based on phenotypic and genotypic characteristics.

Members of the group are spore-forming Gram-positive bacilli that are commonly associated with diarrheal or emetic food poisoning. They are widespread in nature and frequently present in both raw and processed food products. Here, we genetically characterized 24 group isolates from foodstuffs.

Microbial Biotechnology and Vermi-Technology Laboratory, Department of Zoology, The University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, King Abdullah Campus, Chattar Kalass, Muzaffarabad, 13100, Pakistan.

The aim of the current study was to screen and identify heavy metal (chromium, cadmium, and lead) associated bacteria from petroleum-contaminated soil of district Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan to develop ecofriendly technology for contaminated soil remediation. The petroleum-contaminated soil was collected from 99 different localities of district Muzaffarabad and the detection of heavy metals via an atomic absorption spectrometer. The isolation and identification of heavy metals-associated bacteria were done via traditional and molecular methods.
