Background And Aim: African swine fever (ASF) is a notifiable viral disease of pigs and wild boars that causes severe economic losses to the swine industry. The pig industry in Vietnam was recently attacked by the ASF virus (ASFV) for the first time in history. However, we lack information regarding the transmissibility of ASF within indoor production systems communities, such as those in Vietnam. Therefore, we aimed to estimate the basic reproduction number (R) for ASF during the early stages of transmission between farms in indoor production system communities from local and national data in Vietnam.
Materials And Methods: The linear regression model approach for the susceptible infectious method was used in this study to estimate the transmission rate and, consequently, the R value.
Results: The R values between-farm of ASF ranged from 1.41 to 10.8 in different scenarios of infectious period duration, from 15 to 30 days at the national and local levels.
Conclusion: These results help to understand the scale and speed of ASF infection in Vietnam and to provide a scientific basis to implement control measures to restrict the spread of ASFV in other locations.

Purpose: We sought to investigate the expression of MALAT1, plasma brain natriuretic peptide, and Tei index in sepsis-induced myocardial injury.
Methods: The current retrospective analysis focused on 146 sepsis patients admitted to our hospital from February 2021 to March 2023. Based on the presence or absence of myocardial injury, the patients were divided into two groups: the sepsis group (n = 80) and the sepsis-induced myocardial injury group (n = 66).

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges worldwide, necessitating effective modelling approaches to understand and control its transmission dynamics. In this study, we propose a novel approach that integrates asymptomatic and super-spreader individuals in a single compartmental model. We highlight the advantages of utilizing incommensurate fractional order derivatives in ordinary differential equations, including increased flexibility in capturing disease dynamics and refined memory effects in the transmission process.

The impact of micro/nano plastics (MPs/NPs) on human health is a significant area of research. Studies on the effects of maternal exposure to microplastics (MPs) on the fertility in offspring have been conducted, but the damage caused by nanoplastics (NPs) remains ambiguous. In this study, pregnant Kunming mice were exposed to 30 mg/kg/day PS-NPs from 0.

Probiotics exert a diverse range of immunomodulatory effects on the human gut immune system. These mechanisms encompass strengthening the intestinal mucosal barrier, inhibiting pathogen adhesion and colonization, stimulating immune modulation, and fostering the production of beneficial substances. As a result, probiotics hold significant potential in the prevention and treatment of various conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.

Purpose: This study identified novel variants of the FSIP2 and SPEF2 genes in multiple morphological abnormalities of the sperm flagella (MMAF) patients and to investigate the potential effect of variations on male infertility and assisted reproductive outcomes.
Methods: Whole-exome sequencing was performed in 106 Chinese MMAF patients. The discovered variants were evaluated in silico and confirmed by Sanger sequencing.
