The regio- and diastereoselective synthesis of chiral amines derived from 1,4-d-sorbitan has been developed the borrowing hydrogen reaction using a cooperative catalysis between an achiral iridium catalyst and diphenylphosphoric acid. The different reactivities of the four hydroxyl groups on the 1,4-d-sorbitan scaffold have also been highlighted.

Ionic liquids were used as low temperature solvents for the synthesis of new lanthanide and transuranic-element (TRU) borate cluster structures. Ionothermal synthesis with the ionic liquid [BMIm]Cl (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride) yielded the La, Nd, and Am containing phases LaBOCl, NdBOCl, and AmBOCl. The structures of the La, Nd, and Am borate clusters were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) and found to be cubic, in the chiral space group 23.

In China, the crude oil supply is highly dependent on overseas countries, and thus strengthening crude oil self-sufficiency has become an important issue of the national energy security. Tertiary oil recovery, especially polymer flooding, has been widely applied in large oil fields in China, which can increase the recovery rate by 15%-20% compared with water flooding. An -heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed atroposelective [3 + 3] annulation of alkynyl acylazoliums with benzothiazole derivatives has been developed for the divergent synthesis of axially chiral triaryl 2-pyranones and fused 2-pyridones. The regioselectivity of this protocol depends on the structure of benzothiazoles with three different nucleophilic centers. The obtained axially chiral frameworks represent a new class of arylheterocycle atropisomers, which may be potentially useful in medicinal chemistry.
