Continuous control of intraocular pressure (IOP) is crucial to preventing long-term damage to the optic nerve in glaucoma. Recently, a novel telemetric IOP sensor (EYEMATE-IO™, Implandata Ophthalmic Products GmbH, Hannover, Germany) has been developed that continuously records IOP. The patient can read the IOP measurements wirelessly using a hand-held reading device. We present the case of a 70-year-old patient with primary open-angle glaucoma who had been implanted with an EYEMATE-IO™ and recently underwent minimally invasive bleb-filtering surgery with the PreserFlo MicroShunt (Santen, Osaka, Japan). This case demonstrates both the benefits of continuous pressure measurement with EYEMATE-IO™ and the ability of the PreserFlo MicroShunt to significantly reduce IOP fluctuations.

This study compared the efficacy safety profiles of the Xen 63 and Preserflo MicroShunt devices, both standalone, in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). It is a retrospective and single-center study conducted on consecutive on patients with medically uncontrolled POAG who underwent either a standalone Xen 63 or a standalone Preserflo and had a 12-month follow-up visit. The primary outcome was the mean IOP at month-12.

Preserflo MicroShunt (PMS) implantation is a minimally invasive surgical procedure for treating glaucoma. Postoperative hypotony, a common complication of PMS implantation, can be prevented and treated with 10-0 nylon insertion. In this report, we present a case of postoperative hypotony following PMS implantation that was treated with intraluminal insertion of 9-0 nylon.

Glaucoma and cataract often coexist. Patients with both conditions who qualify for surgical treatment may undergo either a combined surgical procedure or sequential treatments such as cataract surgery followed by an antiglaucoma procedure. A combined procedure with phacoemulsification is related to an increased risk of fibrosis of the filtering bleb; however, it is a rational approach for patients with high intraocular pressure and clinically significant lens opacification.
