Objectives: There is a need for more specific biomarkers to diagnose and predict disease course in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). This study aimed to study immunological plasma biomarkers at different time-points in radiographic (r)-axSpA patients overall and stratified by sex and compare these biomarker patterns in r-axSpA patients concerning disease phenotypes and disease activity.

Methods: Plasma samples were analysed from r-axSpA patients at and prior (Pre-Backbone) inclusion in the Backbone study.

Purpose Of Review: To highlight high impact clinical publications in spondyloarthritis from May 2022 to April 2023 that were summarized and presented at the SPARTAN annual meeting in May 2023.

Recent Findings: Publications included updated guidelines on management of axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) by ASAS-EULAR and development of a modified Juvenile Spondyloarthritis Disease Activity Index (JSpADA). Definitions were published for MRI lesions of the spine in axSpA and active and structural sacroiliac (SI) joint lesions in juvenile spondyloarthritis (JSpA).

As curative therapies for pediatric acute myleoid leukemia (AML) remain elusive, identifying potential new treatment targets is vital. We assessed the cell surface expression of CD74, also known as the major histocompatibility complex-II invariant chain, by multidimensional flow cytometry in 973 patients enrolled in the Children's Oncology Group AAML1031 clinical trial (clinicaltrials gov. Identifier: NCT01371981).

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a pleiotropic cytokine and has been implicated in pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). CD 74 is the receptor for MIF and IgA antiCD74 autoantibodies have been described from different parts of the world in patients with AS. As enthesitis-related arthritis (ERA) is a form of juvenile spondyloarthropathy, we studied the serum and synovial fluid levels of MIF in ERA and looked for the IgA antiCD74 antibodies in patients with ERA in our population.
