With the introduction of Eu ions as the secondary fluorescent signal reporter and sensing active sites, a dual-emission ratiometric sensor of (Eu functional ) for hippuric acid (HA) detection in urine and serum was fabricated the postsynthetic encapsulating strategy. Based on the two emission signals at 441 nm (turn-on) and 628 nm (turn-off), the produced ratiometric sensor provided enhanced sensitivity, higher selectivity, and 9.7 times lower limits of detection (LOD) for the detection of HA (2.38 μM, 0.42 μg·mL) than that of the pristine . Considering the high sensitivity and visualization results, further exploration of intelligent applications in the HA sensing process was carried out by constructing a tandem combinational logic gate to improve the practicability and convenience with the help of a smartphone. This work provides a promising approach for developing MOF-based ratiometric sensors to detect biomarkers.

This study reports a novel ratiometric fluorescence sensor based on a tetraphenylethylene-bipyridine covalent organic framework (TPE-Bpy-COF) for the sensitive detection of Cu, leveraging the unique coordination properties of the bipyridine moieties. The interaction between Cu and the nitrogen atoms in the bipyridine units induces fluorescence quenching at 500 nm through an efficient host-guest electron transfer mechanism, where excited-state electrons from the COF framework are transferred to the vacant orbitals of Cu. Upon excitation at 410 nm, the sensor exhibits a primary emission peak at 500 nm, which is quenched in the presence of Cu, while an overtone peak at 820 nm remains stable, serving as an internal reference for ratiometric measurements and significantly enhancing the accuracy and reliability of the sensor.

The precise monitoring of pH is critical in various applications, particularly in biology-related areas. In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization of a novel cyanine-based fluorescent pH sensor with a pK around 6. This pH-sensitive dye features a cyanine chromophore coupled to a piperazine moiety, which modulates the protonation equilibrium and thus the optical response.

Two novel nitrogen hybrid fluorescent sensors based on the ESIPT mechanism were successfully synthesized for the detection of fluoride ions (F), and they exhibit high sensitivity and selectivity with a fast response. The detection limits even reach the parts per billion level. With the addition of F, both sensors showed a ratiometric fluorescence change with a large Stokes shift.

Herein, we report a novel ratiometric nanoprobe (CDs@LZIF-8-Eu) that integrates fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) and Eu on LZIF-8 via a one-pot stirring method. Tetracyclines (TCs) can create inner filter effect on CDs while simultaneously generating an antenna effect with Eu. The rapid and efficient adsorption capabilities of LZIF-8 enhance the probability of TCs interacting with the signal tags.

Rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of heavy metal ions is significant for human health and ecological security. Herein, a novel single-stranded DNA with poly(thymidine) tail is tactfully designed as template to synthesize dual-emission silver nanoclusters (ssDNA-AgNCs). The obtained AgNCs simultaneously emit red and green fluorescence, and the red emission can be selectively quenched by Hg, meanwhile the green emission of AgNCs increases synchronously.
