Purpose Of Review: The purpose of this review is to discuss the current evidence for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) for patients with migraine and comorbid insomnia. In this article, we provide a narrative review of the literature on CBT-I and migraine, highlighting recent advances in research into this topic. Finally, we propose a way for clinicians to integrate CBT-I into clinical practice.

Recent Findings: Multiple studies support CBT-I as a validated modality for the treatment of insomnia in migraine. CBT-I is used to treat insomnia and should be offered as first line therapy. Clinicians should screen for insomnia in all patients with headache, especially in those with migraine, to best manage this condition through the implementation of specific insomnia treatment.

Background: While semaglutide, approved for type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), is being investigated as a treatment for brain disorders, concerns over adverse neuropsychiatric events have emerged. More data are therefore needed to assess the effects of semaglutide on brain health. This study provides robust estimates of the risk of neurological and psychiatric outcomes following semaglutide use compared to three other antidiabetic medications.

Background: Recent studies suggest that increased digital technology usage could be a factor in the rising occurrence and severity of headache episodes. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to determine whether the severity of primary headaches (migraine and tension-type headache) is associated with problematic internet use taking many covariates into account.

Methods: We conducted an online cross-sectional survey using a quantitative, descriptive questionnaire, targeting university students enrolled in correspondence courses, aged 18 to 65.

Background: Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of peripheral vertigo, with frequent recurrence, particularly pronounced among middle-aged and elderly populations, significantly affecting patients' quality of life. This study aimed to identify predictive factors for recurrence in middle-aged and older patients with BPPV and to develop a nomogram prediction model based on these predictors.

Methods: This retrospective study included 582 participants aged ≥45 years who were selected from the electronic medical records system of the First Hospital of Changsha between March 2021 and March 2024.

The combination of the tricyclic antidepressant amitriptyline hydrochloride (AMH) and the non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker propranolol hydrochloride (PPH) is used for migraine prophylaxis. Higher doses of AMH trigger cardiac arrhythmias, anxiety, tachycardia, convulsions, hyperglycemia and anticholinergic side effects. The combined dosage formulation of AMH and PPH leads to drug-drug interactions; causes sedation, xerostomia, dysuria, insomnia and bradycardia; and results in patient non-compliance.

Article Synopsis
  • Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a temporary memory condition often seen in older adults, marked by sudden memory loss that resolves within 24 hours while the person remains aware of their identity.
  • A case study of a woman in her 60s illustrates how her acute memory problems were initially mistaken for a stroke after taking migraine and sleep medications, but were later correctly identified as TGA.
  • This situation emphasizes the need to carefully distinguish TGA from other serious conditions to avoid unnecessary treatments and hospital costs, particularly since combining certain medications may increase the risk of TGA.
