The management of persistent postoperative pain still remains a clinical challenge currently. Although ropivacaine (RVC) is widely used for postoperative analgesia as a local anesthetic, the short half-life makes it difficult to achieve the desired duration of analgesia. Herein, a RVC sustained-release microspheres encapsulated by zeolite imidazole framework-8 (RVC@ZIF-8) was synthesized for the first time, which prolonged the sustained-release of RVC and decreased the resulting drug toxicity. RVC can continuously release in vitro for at least 96 h with high drug loading of 30.6 % and RVC@ZIF-8 had excellent biocompatibility and low cytotoxicity. In sciatic nerve block model, the sensory block time of RVC@ZIF-8 was significantly prolonged compared with RVC, achieving more than 72 h post injection and no inflammation or lesion were found. Based on high drug loading, ideal sustained-release and superior biological safety, RVC@ZIF-8 will be a novel delivery material for local anesthetic with potential application.

Essential oils (EOs) are natural, volatile substances derived from aromatic plants. They exhibit multiple pharmacological effects, including antibacterial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, with broad application prospects in health care, food, and agriculture. However, the instability of volatile components, which are susceptible to deterioration under light, heat, and oxygen exposure, as well as limited water solubility, have significantly impeded the development and application of EOs.

The photocatalytic oxidation of water with gaseous oxygen is environmentally benign for the synthesis of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), but it is currently constrained by the inadequate supply of gaseous oxygen at the catalyst surface in a solid-liquid-gas triple-phase reaction system. Herein, we address this challenge by employing the zeolite encapsulated catalysts that efficiently enrich gaseous oxygen and accelerate the H2O2 synthesis in in aqueous conditions. We focus on the classical titania photocatalyst, encapsulating it within siliceous MFI zeolite crystals.

Food Packaging using antibacterial substances plays a vital role in food industry in controlling contamination caused by food borne pathogens. Stability and pH dependent degradation characteristics of zeolitic imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) makes its suitable candidate for biomedical applications. The present study focuses on thyme essential oil (TEO) encapsulated in ZIF-8 to achieve a synergistic antibacterial effect and prolonged drug release, aiming to extend the shelf life of food products.

The healing of infected wounds is a complex and dynamic process requiring tailored treatment strategies that address both antimicrobial and reparative needs. Despite the development of numerous drugs, few approaches have been devised to optimize the timing of drug release for targeting distinct phases of infection control and tissue repair, limiting the overall treatment efficacy. Here, a stimuli-responsive microsphere encapsulating dual drugs was developed to facilitate differential drug release during distinct phases of antibacterial and repair promotion, thereby synergistically enhancing wound healing.

Chronic wounds, frequently arising from conditions like diabetes, trauma, or chronic inflammation, represent a significant medical challenge due to persistent inflammation, heightened infection risk, and limited treatment solutions. This study presents a novel bioengineered approach to promote tissue repair and improve the healing environment. We developed a bioactive hydrogel patch, encapsulated zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) into extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages, and synthesized ZIF@EV, then embedded it in the sodium alginate matrix.
