Three-dimensional (3D) halide perovskites have attracted considerable research interest, yet the selection of A-site cations is restricted by the Goldschmidt tolerance factor. To accommodate cations beyond this acceptable range, novel 3D perovskite analog structures with edge- and face-sharing motifs have been developed. Until now, these structures have been limited to divalent cations due to significant electrostatic repulsion when incorporating two monovalent cations.

Digital image-correlation (DIC) algorithms rely heavily on the accuracy of the initial values provided by whole-pixel search algorithms for structural displacement monitoring. When the measured displacement is too large or exceeds the search domain, the calculation time and memory consumption of the DIC algorithm will increase greatly, and even fail to obtain the correct result. The paper introduced two edge-detection algorithms, Canny and Zernike moments in digital image-processing (DIP) technology, to perform geometric fitting and sub-pixel positioning on the specific pattern target pasted on the measurement position, and to obtain the structural displacement according to the change of the target position before and after deformation.

Sequence alignment is an essential component of bioinformatics, for identifying regions of similarity that may indicate functional, structural, or evolutionary relationships between the sequences. Genome-based diagnostics relying on DNA sequencing have benefited hugely from the boom in computing power in recent decades, particularly due to cloud-computing and the rise of graphics processing units (GPUs) and other advanced computing platforms for running advanced algorithms. Translating the success of such breakthroughs in diagnostics to affordable solutions for low-cost healthcare requires development of algorithms that can operate on the edge instead of in the cloud, using low-cost and low-power electronic systems such as microcontrollers and field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

In this work, using the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld integral and Berry formula, a topological charge (TC) of a Gaussian optical vortex with an initial fractional TC in the far field was calculated. It was found that, for diverse fractional parts of the TC, the beam contained different numbers of screw dislocations, which determined the TC of the entire beam. If a fractional part of the TC was small, the beam consisted of the main optical vortex centered on the optical axis, with the TC equal to the nearest integer (say >0) and two edge dislocations located on the vertical axis (one above and the other below the center).
