Published: February 2023

A simple method for the C-4 alkylation of isoquinolines is described using benzoic acid as a nucleophilic reagent and vinyl ketones as an electrophile. The reaction shows tolerance for substitution at C-3, and C-5-C-8 positions as well as allowing some variation of the vinyl ketone electrophiles. The products contain a carbonyl that can act as a synthetic handle for further manipulations giving esters, amines, or simple alkyl products.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how the surface properties and electrical conductivity of betaine-based ionic liquids change when mixed with different concentrations of gabapentin at a specific temperature.
  • The findings show that as gabapentin concentration and the length of the alkyl chain increase, surface tension decreases, indicating stronger interactions.
  • Additionally, micellization parameters improve with longer chains, while conductivity decreases at higher gabapentin concentrations due to increased viscosity and ion interactions.

Association Kinetics for Perfluorinated -Alkyl Radicals.

Radical-radical reaction channels are important in the pyrolysis and oxidation chemistry of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). In particular, unimolecular dissociation reactions within unbranched -perfluoroalkyl chains, and their corresponding reverse barrierless association reactions, are expected to be significant contributors to the gas-phase thermal decomposition of families of species such as perfluorinated carboxylic acids and perfluorinated sulfonic acids. Unfortunately, experimental data for these reactions are scarce and uncertain.

With the increasing application of ionic liquids (ILs) in industrial areas, the removal of ILs from aqueous media has attracted considerable attention due to their potential environmental impact. In this study, we investigated the adsorption behavior and removal mechanism of ILs in water using the metal-organic framework material MIL-101(Cr) and its sulfonated derivative MIL-101(Cr)-SOH. It was observed that MIL-101(Cr)-SOH exhibited notably elevated adsorption capacity (1.

JmjC catalysed histone H2a N-methyl arginine demethylation and C4-arginine hydroxylation reveals importance of sequence-reactivity relationships.

2-Oxoglutarate (2OG) dependent N-methyl lysine demethylases (JmjC-KDMs) regulate eukaryotic transcription. We report studies showing that isolated forms of all human KDM4 and KDM5 JmjC enzymes catalyse demethylation of N-methylated Arg-3 of histone H2a. Unexpectedly, the results reveal that KDM4E and, less efficiently, KDM4D catalyse C-4 hydroxylation of Arg-20 of H2a on peptides, recombinant H2a, and calf histone extracts, including when the Arg-20 guanidino group is N-methylated.

Article Synopsis
  • Rare earth tris(alkyl) complexes, like M(CHSiMe)(sol), are commonly used as catalysts in polymerization and functionalization processes, but their thermal instability limits their practical applications.
  • This study introduces a new series of more stable rare earth neosilyl solvates, based on a comprehensive investigation of their decomposition mechanisms, specifically for Sc(iii), Y(iii), Lu(iii), and Sm(iii) complexes.
  • The findings reveal that simply using higher-denticity donors does not prevent decomposition effectively, as unexpected pathways arise, and small amounts of LiCl impact the stability of certain complexes, leading to a novel method for producing pure Y(r)(THF) without relying on the lithium salt.
