In this study, we developed a new approach for the solution-phase synthesis of oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) using nucleoside 3'--phosphonamidate derivatives as monomers. The -phosphonamidate monomers having a heterocyclic amino group as the leaving group reacted with an alcohol to form an internucleotidic -phosphonate diester under mild basic conditions without using additives. The resultant internucleotidic linkage was converted into a more stable linkage, such as an -cyanoethyl phosphorothioate diester. Moreover, under the conditions for detritylation, the unreacted -phosphonamidate monomer was converted into a water-soluble compound, which was easily removed by extraction. Thus, only simple extractions were required to purify intermediates, and the solution-phase synthesis of trithymidine diphosphorothioate from the monomer was achieved with only one silica gel column chromatography purification. This method was applied to deoxyadenosine, deoxycytidine, and deoxyguanosine derivatives. This strategy enables us to reduce the number of reagents and simplify the purification process.

Photolithography is the most widely used micropatterning technique at the micro- and nanoscale in device fabrication. However, traditional photoresists used in photolithography are typically nonaqueous-based toxic substances that require harsh conditions for processing, limiting the development of biofunctional and biocompatible micropatterns. In this study, a protein-based aqueous photoresist derived from chemically modified silk fibroin named SAMA, capable of achieving high-resolution micropatterning (<1.

The design and synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with outstanding light-harvesting and photoexcitation for artificial photocatalytic CO reduction is an attractive but challenging task. In this work, a novel aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active ligand, tetraphenylpyrazine (PTTBPC) is proposed and utilized for the first time to construct a Zr-MOF photocatalyst via coordination with stable Zr-oxo clusters. Zr-MOF is featured by a scu topology with a two-fold interpenetrated framework, wherein the PTTBPC ligands enable strong light-harvesting and photoexcitation, while the Zr-oxo clusters facilitate CO adsorption and activation, as well as offer potential sites for further metal modification.

Land plants alternate between asexual sporophytes and sexual gametophytes. Unlike seed plants, ferns develop free-living gametophytes. Gametophytes of the model fern Ceratopteris exhibit two sex types: hermaphrodites with pluripotent meristems and males lacking meristems.

Precisely controlling quantum states is relevant in next-generation quantum computing, encryption, and sensing. Chiral organic chromophores host unique light-matter interactions, which allow them to manipulate the quantized circular polarization of photons. Axially chiral organic scaffolds, such as helicenes or twisted acenes, are powerful motifs in chiral light manipulation.
