Published: January 2023

The present review of the biomarkers BNP and NT-pro-BNP is published in the series "biomarkers" of the , which deals with the increasing use of the determination of specific markers in so-called manager preventive and check-up examinations. In principle, BNP and NT-pro-BNP are fundamentally suitable as markers for diagnosing acute and chronic heart failure and for assessing the course. In this context these show a high sensitivity and specificity.

: Heart failure is associated with high morbidity and mortality and linked with several pre-existing health conditions and risk factors. Early detection and prompt management in heart failure improves patient outcomes. Liver involvement is associated with heart failure disease progression, and hence liver biomarkers and liver fibrosis may have a prognostic impact.

Background And Objectives: Anthracycline chemotherapy is a cornerstone in pediatric oncology but carries a significant risk of cardiotoxicity. The early detection of cardiac dysfunction is crucial for timely intervention. This study aims to evaluate the predictive value of combining speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) parameters with traditional cardiac biomarkers for the early detection of anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity in pediatric oncology patients.

Pediatric Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension; is it Possible to Predict its Outcome?

J Saudi Heart Assoc

December 2024

Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology Division, Specialized Pediatric Hospital, Cairo University, Egypt.

Objectives: To assess the outcome of pediatric pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and to identify the predictors of morbidity and mortality of this progressive disease.

Patients And Methods: This prospective observational cohort study was conducted on consecutive pediatric patients with PAH. Medical history was taken with a grading of the WHO functional class as well as the serum N-terminal pro-BNP (NT pro-BNP), 6 min' walk test (6MWT), and echocardiography at the initial assessment and at follow-up.

Objective: To assess the extent to which the concomitant presence of subclinical myocardial injury or stress and diabetes affects the risk of heart failure (HF) subtypes.

Research Design And Methods: The Jackson Heart Study included Black adults, categorized based on diabetes status, high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI), and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels. Subclinical myocardial injury was defined as hs-cTnI ≥4 ng/L in women and ≥6 ng/L in men, and subclinical myocardial stress as BNP ≥35 pg/mL.

Early genetic screening and cardiac intervention in patients with cardiomyopathies in a multidisciplinary clinic.

ESC Heart Fail

December 2024

Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada.

Aims: Patients with cardiomyopathies are a heterogeneous group of patients who experience high morbidity and mortality. Early cardiac assessment and intervention with access to genetic counselling in a multidisciplinary Cardiomyopathy Clinic may improve outcomes and prevent progression to advanced heart failure.

Methods And Results: Our prospective cohort study was conducted at a multidisciplinary Cardiomyopathy Clinic with 421 patients enrolled (42.
