Objective: ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders, seen in children and adolescents, and is often treated with various pharmacological agents, especially methylphenidate. There are differing opinions in the literature regarding the cardiovascular safety of long-term methylphenidate use. Studies suggest that the drug may increase the risk of hypertension, myocardial infarction, ventricular arrhythmia, sudden cardiac death, cardiomyopathy, heart failure (HF), pulmonary hypertension, and stroke.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) exhibits substantial heterogeneity in its disease trajectory. A subset of AD patients with unmatched cognitive decline/tauopathy severity has not been well studied. We identified such atypical subgroups in post-mortem AD brain studies.

Background: Cognitive changes affecting performance are subtle in early stages of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and may emerge only with more complex tasks. Driving is a highly challenging instrumental activity of daily living, requiring higher order integration of cognitive skills. For example, driving on freeway entrance ramps requires heightened cognitive engagement such as rapid responses to fast-emerging traffic and sudden speed changes, combining sensory processing and manipulative actions.

The identification of tipping points is essential for the prediction of collapses or other sudden changes in complex systems. Applications include studies of ecology, thermodynamics, climatology, and epidemiology. However, detecting early signs of proximity to a tipping is made challenging by complexity and nonlinearity.

Background: Increase in early onset colorectal cancer makes adherence to screening a significant public health concern, with various social determinants playing a crucial role in its incidence, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes. Stressful life events, such as divorce, marriage, or sudden loss of job, have a unique position among the social determinants of health.
Methods: We applied a large language model (LLM) to social history sections of clinical notes in the health records database of the Medical University of South Carolina to extract recent stressful life events and assess their impact on colorectal cancer screening adherence.
