Research progress of mitochondria and cytoskeleton crosstalk in tumour development.

Biochim Biophys Acta Rev Cancer

December 2024

Department of Oromaxillofacial-Head and Neck Surgery, School and Hospital of Stomatology, China Medical University, Liaoning Province Key Laboratory of Oral Disease, Shenyang 110002, Liaoning Province, China. Electronic address:

During tumour progression, organelle function undergoes dramatic changes, and crosstalk among organelles plays a significant role. Crosstalk between mitochondria and other organelles such as the endoplasmic reticulum and cytoskeleton has focussed attention on the mechanisms of tumourigenesis. This review demonstrates an overview of the molecular structure of the mitochondrial-cytoskeletal junction and its biological interactions.

A qualitative exploration of the interaction between mental illness stigma and preparedness for practice in pharmacy students.

Curr Pharm Teach Learn

December 2024

School of Pharmacy, College of Health and Life Sciences, Aston University, Birmingham B4 7ET, United Kingdom.

Introduction: Mental illness stigma can result in discriminative practice in pharmacy, such as providing less pharmaceutical care to people living with mental illness (PMI) than those with physical illness. Pharmacy education should aim to reduce the impact of mental illness stigma on the pharmaceutical care of PMI. Whilst previous research has shown that some interventions can reduce stereotyping and prejudice in pharmacy students, the impact on subsequent discrimination is questionable and the reasons for successful and unsuccessful outcomes are unclear.

Background: Pediatric solid organ transplantation is challenging due to the limited availability of suitable organs resulting in an increasing waitlist. Many pediatric transplant recipients receive organs from deceased donors, often after neurologic determination of death. Organ donation from patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) at the time of death has been described in adults, offering the potential for donation after circulatory determination of death (DCDD) with minimal ischemia time.

Surface-Functionalizing Strategies for Multiplexed Molecular Biosensing: Developments Powered by Advancements in Nanotechnologies.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Biomedical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, 83 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon, Hong Kong 999077, China.

Multiplexed biosensing methods for simultaneously detecting multiple biomolecules are important for investigating biological mechanisms associated with physiological processes, developing applications in life sciences, and conducting medical tests. The development of biosensors, especially those advanced biosensors with multiplexing potentials, strongly depends on advancements in nanotechnologies, including the nano-coating of thin films, micro-nano 3D structures, and nanotags for signal generation. Surface functionalization is a critical process for biosensing applications, one which enables the immobilization of biological probes or other structures that assist in the capturing of biomolecules.

Medicinal plants serve as vital resources for preventing and treating diseases, with their flowers, fruits, leaves, roots, or entire plants being utilized in the pharmaceutical industry or as direct therapeutic agents. During our investigation of microfungi associated with medicinal plants in Guizhou and Sichuan Provinces, China, several asexual and sexual fungal morphs were collected. Multi-locus phylogenetic analysis based on combined ITS, LSU, SSU and datasets revealed that these taxa are related to the family Dictyosporiaceae.
