species are a major cause of life-threatening infections in immunocompromised and immunocompetent hosts. While most disease is caused by , , a genotypically and phenotypically distinct species, is responsible for 11-33% of global cases of cryptococcosis. Despite best treatment, infections are associated with early mortality rates of 10-25%. The World Health Organization's recently released Fungal Priority Pathogen List classified as a medium-priority pathogen due to the lack of effective therapies and robust clinical and epidemiological data. This narrative review summarizes the latest research on the taxonomy, epidemiology, pathogenesis, laboratory testing, and management of infections.

Biodegradation and biotransformation of contaminants in groundwater commonly occurs naturally. However, natural biodegradation rates can be slow leading to elongated contaminant plumes and prolonged risks that demand greater remedial intervention. Enhancement of the biodegradation of contaminants in groundwater can be induced by the addition of amendments to change the geochemical conditions to those that are more favorable for indigenous or added biota.

Addictions appear everywhere, mutate, transform with new products and behaviors, playing on our painstaking efforts to try to control them. Drawn into this current, the impression that dominates invites more to understand and to coax rather than to fight. Addictions are our condition, let's deal with it, rather than fight against them.

Soil metal contamination is a major concern due to the ever-rising number of areas afflicted worldwide and the detrimental effects of metals to the environment and human health. Due to their non-biodegradability and toxicity, it is paramount to prevent further metal contamination and remediate the thousands of contaminated sites across the planet. Yet, conventional reclamation based on physical and chemical methods is often expensive, impractical, and triggers secondary pollution issues.

Over the past few years, despite the lack of approved pediatric labelling, dexmedetomidine's (DEX) use has become more prevalent in pediatric clinical practice as well as in research trials. Its respiratory-sparing effects and bioavailability by various routes are only some of the valued features of DEX. In recent years the potential organ-protective effects of DEX, with the possibility for preserving neurocognitive function, has put it in the forefront of clinical and bench research.
