The membranes are an important biomaterial that contribute to osteopromotion. This study aimed to evaluate the osteopromotive potential of collagen membranes associated with Hydroxyapatite (HA) in critical size calvaria rat's defects. Ninety-six Albinus Wistar rats were divided into four groups: (CG) negative control: clot only (CG); positive control: porcine collagen membrane (BG); fish collagen membrane associated with HA (CP); bovine collagen membrane associated with HA (CB), analyzed at 7, 15, 30, and 60 postoperative days. At 30 days, membrane integrity was observed in the CB and fragments in the CP and BG groups were dispersed in the center of the defect. At 60 days, BG demonstrated better results with no statistical difference for the CP group ( = 0.199) and a statistically significant difference for the CB group ( = 0.013). The inflammatory profiles of the BG and CP groups were similar. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated at 60 days moderate osteopontin staining for the BG and CP groups, light staining for the CB, and intense osteocalcin staining for the BG, while the CB and CP groups demonstrated moderate staining. Microtomography revealed the highest mean bone volume (14.247 mm) in the BG, followed by the CB (11.850 mm), and CP (9.560 mm) group. The collagen membranes associated with HA demonstrated an osteopromotive potential.

Fibroblast-mediated oxidative stress is a pivotal factor in the pathogenesis of skin photoaging, predominantly induced by UVA radiation. Diverging from traditional strategies that concentrate on the reduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), the present study implements mitochondrial transplantation as an innovative therapeutic approach. The objective of this study is to reestablish the oxidative microenvironment and to effectively rejuvenate cellular functionality through the direct introduction of healthy and vibrant mitochondria.

Takifugu bimaculatus, a pufferfish species farmed in Fujian Province, is known for its non-toxic flesh and collagen-rich skin. We identified a novel collagen-derived matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP-1) inhibitory peptide, from T. bimaculatus skin with potent anti-photoaging properties.

Background: The pre-extraction overbuilding procedure was designed aiming to mitigate buccal bone resorption following tooth extraction. The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of pre-extraction and juxta-extraction buccal overbuilding treatments in preserving buccal bone volume following tooth extraction.
Material And Methods: At the test sites (pre-extraction sites), an alveolar crest overbuilding was performed on the buccal aspect of the distal root of the fourth premolar using a xenograft covered with a collagen membrane.

We have compared the biomechanical properties of human and porcine corneas using vibrational optical coherence tomography (VOCT). The elastic modulus of the cornea has been previously reported in the literature to vary from about several kPa to more than several GPa based on the results of different techniques. In addition, the formation of corneal cones near the central cornea in keratoconus has been observed in the clinic.

Aim: To determine bone regeneration following sinus floor elevation (SFE) at sites with or without prior sinus membrane perforation.
Materials And Methods: The sinus membranes in the maxillary sinuses of 12 rabbits were intentionally perforated (≥ 5 mm) on one side, followed by application of a collagen matrix. SFE was performed on both sinuses after 8 weeks of healing, presenting two groups: SFE with a previous large sinus membrane perforation (group SFE_Perf), and in an intact sinus (group SFE).
