Objective: To describe the prenatal ultrasound (US) findings, genetic results, and clinical outcomes of fetuses with suspected agenesis of the septum pellucidum (ASP) in the Chinese population.
Methods: This retrospective, single-center study included a cohort of fetuses with ASP diagnosed by prenatal imaging over a 10-year period. We evaluated US findings, associated anomalies, genetic results, and clinical outcomes. Prenatal and postnatal imaging findings were compared as well as the clinical outcome of delivery.
Results: Ninety patients were included, with a median follow-up time of 36 months (1-96 months). Thirty-six fetuses (40%) with isolated ASP were diagnosed by prenatal US or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); 39 cases (43.3%) had ASP with central nervous system malformations and 15 cases (16.6%) had ASP with non-CNS abnormalities. Additional imaging findings were supplemented with prenatal MRI in 13 cases. Genetic tests were performed on 32 patients, of whom six had abnormalities. Prenatal US results of 40 patients (40/70) diagnosed by referral hospitals did not correspond to our findings. Of the 38 patients with postnatal records, 11 had abnormal neurological development.
Conclusion(s): The outcome of an isolated ASP is usually favorable; however, neurological developmental delay is commonly observed if it is combined with other malformations.

Doxorubicin (DOX), a chemotherapeutic agent utilized in the management of cancer, provokes cardiotoxicity although effective remedy is lacking. Given that DOX provokes oxidative stress and cell death in cardiomyocytes, this study evaluated the possible involvement of cuproptosis, a newly identified form of cell death, in DOX-instigated cardiac remodeling and contractile dysfunction, alongside the impact of the heavy metal scavenger metallothionein (MT) on DOX cardiomyopathy. Cardiac-specific MT transgenic and wild-type (WT) mice were treated with DOX (5 mg/kg/wk.

Two patients of early adolescence age presented with medically resistant primary dysmenorrhoea. Imaging (MRI scan) confirmed an asymmetric uterine septum with a unilaterally obstructed horn with haematometra. Laparotomy and Tompkins metroplasty was performed to unify the uterine cavity in each case, a technique not used for this condition before.

: Orthognathic surgery is used to restore a correct anatomical and functional relationship between the jaws, with postoperative nasal septal deviation (NSD) being a common complication of Le Fort I osteotomy (LF-IO). The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of NSD after LF-IO and to identify possible risk factors. : Pre- and postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans from 2018 to 2023 of 102 patients after LF-IO were analyzed.

Müllerian (paramesonephric) duct anomalies (MDA) are a rare condition, occurring in 5.5% of female newborns. One of the most complex malformations is represented by Obstructed Hemivagina and Ipsilateral Renal Anomalies (OHVIRA) syndrome, also known as Herlyn -Werner-Wunderlich (HWW) syndrome.

: Endometriosis and urogenital malformation with uterus didelphys and renal agenesis might occur concomitantly, and the question arises whether both entities are associated with each other. : A literature search was conducted in PubMed and Web of Science, using the following search terms: "endometriosis and uterine malformation, endometriosis and Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome", "endometriosis and OHVIRA (Obstructed Hemivagina and Ipsilateral Renal Anomaly) syndrome" and "uterus didelphys, renal agenesis and endometriosis". : We identified and examined 36 studies, comprising a total of 563 cases with coinciding endometriosis and OHVIRA.
