Background: Exposure to ionizing radiation is inevitable due to its extensive use in industrial and medical applications. The search for effective and safe natural therapeutic agents as alternatives to chemical drugs is crucial to mitigate their side effects. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of citicoline as a standalone treatment or in combination with the anti-hepatotoxic drug silymarin in protecting against liver injury caused by γ-radiation in rats.

Coal power plants adversely impact air pollution, but they also pose a risk to our water sources. Discharge wastewater from power plants may degrade the quality of nearby water bodies. This study evaluates the potential water-related environmental impacts of electricity generation at an ultra-supercritical coal power plant in Malaysia using the life cycle assessment method.

Solar desalination is one of the effective means to alleviate water scarcity, in which aerogel-like evaporators have attracted extensive attention in the field of efficient desalination. However, the current preparation methods for aerogels still mainly rely on high-cost solutions, such as freeze-drying or supercritical drying. Herein, a preparation scheme for aerogels that can be realized under atmospheric pressure conditions is reported.

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), known as chronic diseases, significantly impact patients' quality of life (QoL) and increase medical expenses. The majority of risk factors are modifiable, and metabolomics has been suggested as a promising strategy for their evaluation, though real-world data are scarce. This study evaluated the QoL improvement and cost-effectiveness of a metabolomics-based treatment for NCDs, aiming to restore metabolic dysfunctions and nutritional deficiencies.

High carbon sectors (agriculture, industry, construction, and transportation) contribute nearly 85% of carbon emissions, highlighting the urgent need for transitioning towards cleaner energy structures in these sectors. This study utilizes the undesirable SBM model to assess TFEE (total factor energy efficiency) across the total sector and high carbon sectors. It decomposes TFEE from an energy structural perspective into coal, oil, natural gas, and electric heat efficiencies.
