The emerging perovskite solar cell (PSC) technology has attracted significant attention due to its superior power conversion efficiency (PCE) among the thin-film photovoltaic technologies. However, the toxicity of lead and poor stability of lead halide materials hinder their commercialization. In this case, after a decade of effort, various categories of lead-free perovskites and perovskite-like materials have been developed, including tin halide perovskites, double perovskites, defect-structured perovskites, and rudorffites.

In the quest for advanced memristor technologies, this study introduces the synthesis of delta-formamidinium lead iodide (δ-FAPbI) nanoparticles (NPs) and their self-assembly into nanorods (NRs). The formation of these NRs is facilitated by iodide vacancies, promoting the fusion of individual NPs at higher concentrations. Notably, these NRs exhibit robust stability under ambient conditions, a distinctive advantage attributed to the presence of capping ligands and a crystal lattice structured around face-sharing octahedra.

Low-dimensional perovskites afford improved stability against moisture, heat, and ionic migration. However, the low dimensionality typically results in a wide bandgap and strong electron-phonon coupling, which is undesirable for optoelectronic applications. Herein, semiconducting A-site organic cation engineering by electron-acceptor bipyridine (bpy) cations (2,2'-bpy and 4,4'-bpy) is employed to optimize band structure in low-dimensional perovskites.

A metal-organic hybrid perovskite (CHNHPbI) with three-dimensional framework of metal-halide octahedra has been reported as a low-cost, solution-processable absorber for a thin-film solar cell with a power-conversion efficiency over 20%. Low-dimensional layered perovskites with metal halide slabs separated by the insulating organic layers are reported to show higher stability, but the efficiencies of the solar cells are limited by the confinement of excitons. In order to explore the confinement and transport of excitons in zero-dimensional metal-organic hybrid materials, a highly orientated film of (CHNH)BiI with nanometre-sized core clusters of BiI surrounded by insulating CHNH was prepared via solution processing.
