On the formation and stability mechanisms of diverse lipid-based nanostructures for drug delivery.

Adv Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.

In the evolving landscape of nanotechnology and pharmaceuticals, lipid nanostructures have emerged as pivotal areas of research due to their unique ability to mimic biological membranes and encapsulate active molecules. These nanostructures offer promising avenues for drug delivery, vaccine development, and diagnostic applications. This comprehensive review explores the complex mechanisms underlying the formation and stability of various lipid nanostructures, including lipid liquid crystalline nanoparticles and solid lipid nanoparticles.

Targeted organelle therapy is a promising therapeutic method for significantly regulating the tumor microenvironment, yet it often lacks effective strategies for leveraging synergistic enhancement effect. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) are expected to address this challenge due to their notable advantages in drug delivery, extended circulation time, and intercellular information transmission. Herein, we prepare sEVs with pH and photothermal dual-responsiveness, which are encapsulated with hydrogels for a quadruple-efficient synergistic therapy.

This study investigates the potential synergistic effects of extracts from (turmeric), (Arabica coffee beans), and (chili peppers) in reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, which are associated with metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Using a systematic design of experiment (DoE) optimization approach, an optimal extract ratio of 1:3:4 (turmeric: coffee: chili) was identified. The efficacy of the extract combination was assessed through various antioxidant assays, inhibition of inflammation-related gene expression, and safety testing via the 3-(4,5-dimethylthazolk-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay.

In this study, in order to solve the problems of resource utilization of electrolytic manganese residue and the destruction of natural resources by the over-exploitation of raw materials of traditional ceramics, electrolytic manganese residue (EMR), red mud (RM), and waste soil (WS) were used to prepare self-foaming expanded ceramsite (SEC), and different firing temperatures and four groups with different mixing ratios of these three raw materials were considered. Water absorption, porosity, heavy metal ion leaching, and compressive strength in the cylinder of SEC were evaluated. The chemical composition and microscopic morphology of SEC were investigated by XRD and SEM.
