An oxidative dehydrogenative coupling of thiols with alkanes via direct C(sp)-H bond functionalization to form a new C-S bond and S═O double bond was developed. The present reaction features the use of readily available reagents and high step- and atom-efficiency, thus providing an efficient access to sulfoxides. A possible mechanism is proposed.

Metal-free boron-based materials exhibit remarkable performance in oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (ODHP). Rational design of boron-based catalysts requires a systematic understanding of the underlying mechanisms to constitute a knowledge base. This work provides a comprehensive view of the reaction mechanism of the boron-based ODH reaction and discusses the key features of the reaction systems, including the inhibition of deep oxidation, high olefin selectivity, and the role of water in the ODHP reaction.

The electrocatalytic 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) oxidation reaction (HMFOR) toward 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) has been considered a promising approach for the substitution of the energy-consuming and hazardous oxygen evolution reaction and for the valorization of renewable biomass. However, it is limited by the susceptibility of HMF to the oxidative environment and requires efficient electrocatalysts. Herein, a NiMo complex (NiMo-N) is provided as the precatalyst for the HMFOR, exhibiting favorable performances with a current density of 450 mA·cm achieved at an anodic potential of 1.

Efficient and selective oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) catalysts are crucial to advance the production of valuable petrochemicals. In this study, we leverage the power of machine learning to predict dehydrogenation (DH) product yield and unravel the factors influencing the product distribution. A comprehensive data set obtained from experiments conducted in a fixed-bed reactor under varying temperatures, feed ratios (O/-butane), and metal oxide loadings (Ni, Fe, Co, Bi, Mo, W, Zn, and Mn) on an aluminum oxide support served as the basis for model development.

Electro-reforming of organics such as alcohols into commodity chemicals and H powered by renewables is intriguing and prevailing with the remarkable renaissance of electrochemical technology. Integrating Pt/Pd with an auxiliary metal, metal oxide, and metal hydroxide are feasible strategies to design the desirable catalysts toward alcohols electro-oxidation reactions. These catalysts however have high affinity toward carbonyl intermediates that occupy and poison the active sites.
