With the increasing demand for multidirectional vibration measurements, traditional triaxial accelerometers cannot achieve vibration measurements with high sensitivity, high natural frequency, and low cross-sensitivity simultaneously. Moreover, for piezoresistive accelerometers, achieving pure axial deformation of the piezoresistive beam can greatly improve performance, but it requires the piezoresistive beam to be located in a specific position, which inevitably makes the design more complex and limits the performance improvement. Here, a monolithically integrated triaxial high-performance accelerometer with pure axial stress piezoresistive beams was designed, fabricated, and tested. By controlling synchronous displacements at both piezoresistive beam ends, the pure axial stress states of the piezoresistive beams could be easily achieved with position independence without tedious calculations. The measurement unit for the axis acceleration was innovatively designed as an interlocking proof mass structure to ensure a full Wheatstone bridge for sensitivity improvement. The pure axial stress state of the piezoresistive beams and low cross-sensitivity of all three units were verified by the finite element method (FEM). The triaxial accelerometer was fabricated and tested. Results showing extremely high sensitivities ( axis: 2.43 mV/g/5 V; axis: 2.44 mv/g/5 V; axis: 2.41 mV/g/5 V (without amplification by signal conditioning circuit)) and high natural frequencies ( axes: 11.4 kHz; -axis: 13.2 kHz) were obtained. The approach of this paper makes it simple to design and obtain high-performance piezoresistive accelerometers.

The synthesis, structure, and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) properties of axially chiral boron difluoride complexes are described. A series of optically pure bis (boron difluoride) complexes were prepared in 5 steps from commercially available (S)- or (R)-BINOL as starting materials. The complexes were found to exhibit similar yellow photoluminescence in solution, regardless of the type of substituents on the nitrogen atoms.

Size Matters: Predicting Surgical Site Infection After Whole Breast Radiotherapy in the Era of Hypofractionation.

J Clin Med

December 2024

Department of Radiation Oncology, Bucheon St. Mary's Hospital, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul 14647, Republic of Korea.

: Few studies have analyzed surgical site infections associated with hypofractionated RT. The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors for surgical site infections with a particular focus on volumetric parameters that reflect the size of the volumes treated, including tumors, surgical cavities, and breasts. : A total of 145 early breast cancer patients who were surgically staged 0-II undergoing hypofractionated RT on the whole breast were retrospectively reviewed.

Background: Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) surgery has become increasingly popular in the surgical treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases. The optimal structure for stable double-segment fixation remains unclear.

Objective: To compare the biomechanical changes of unilateral fixation versus bilateral fixation in patients with lumbar degeneration undergoing double-segment TLIF surgery, and to explore the stability and feasibility of unilateral double-segment fixation.

Background: Effects of rigid posterior instrumentation on the three-dimensional post-operative spinal flexibility are widely unknown. Purpose of this in vitro study was to quantify these effects for characteristic adolescent idiopathic scoliosis instrumentations.

Methods: Six fresh frozen human thoracic and lumbar spine specimens (C7-S) with entire rib cage from young adult donors (26-45 years) without clinically relevant deformity were loaded quasi-statically with pure moments of 5 Nm in flexion/extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation.

Introduction: To report 5 cases of concomitant traumatic macular hole (TMH) and orbital fracture, and discuss its incidence.

Methods: This was a retrospective, observational study including all patients with orbital fracture who were referred to us from May 2013 to December 2023. Axial and coronal orbital computed tomographic images with bone and soft tissue window algorithms and optical coherence tomographic images were obtained from all patients.
