Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common diseases in the orthopedic clinic, characterized by progressive cartilage degradation. RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are capable of binding to RNAs at transcription and translation levels, playing an important role in the pathogenesis of OA. This study aims to investigate the diagnosis values of RBP-related genes in OA. The RBPs were collected from previous studies, and the GSE114007 dataset (control = 18, OA = 20) was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) as the training cohort. Through various bioinformatical and machine learning methods, including genomic difference detection, protein-protein interaction network analyses, Lasso regression, univariate logistic regression, Boruta algorithm, and SVM-RFE, RNMT and RBM24 were identified and then included into the random forest (RF) diagnosis model. GSE117999 dataset (control = 10, OA = 10) and clinical samples collected from local hospital (control = 10, OA = 11) were used for external validation. The RF model was a promising tool to diagnose OA in the training dataset (area under curve [AUC] = 1.000, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.000-1.000), the GSE117999 cohort (AUC = 0.900, 95% CI = 0.769-1.000), and local samples (AUC = 0.759, 95% CI = 0.568-0.951). Besides, qPCR and Western Blotting experiments showed that RNMT ( < 0.05) and RBM24 ( < 0.01) were both down-regulated in CHON-001 cells with IL-1β treatment. In all, an RF model to diagnose OA based on RNMT and RBM24 in cartilage tissue was constructed, providing a promising clinical tool and possible cut-in points in molecular mechanism clarification.

Urban waterfront areas, which are essential natural resources and highly perceived public areas in cities, play a crucial role in enhancing urban environment. This study integrates deep learning with human perception data sourced from street view images to study the relationship between visual landscape features and human perception of urban waterfront areas, employing linear regression and random forest models to predict human perception along urban coastal roads. Based on aesthetic and distinctiveness perception, urban coastal roads in Xiamen were classified into four types with different emphasis and priorities for improvement.

Radon, a common radioactive indoor air pollutant, is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Knowledge about its distribution is essential for risk assessment and designing efficient protective regulations. However, the three current radon maps for the United States are unable to provide the up-to-date, high-resolution, and time-varying radon concentrations.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the clinical utility of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) evaluated by "average" and "hot-spot" methods in breast cancer patients.
Methods: We examined 367 breast cancer patients without neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) by average and hot-spot methods to determine the consistency of TIL scores between biopsy and surgical specimens. TIL scores before NAC were also compared with the pathological complete response (pCR) rate and clinical outcomes in 144 breast cancer patients that received NAC.

End-range movements are among the most demanding but least understood in the sport of tennis. Using male Hawk-Eye data from match-play during the 2021-2023 Australian Open tournaments, we evaluated the speed, deceleration, acceleration, and shot quality characteristics of these types of movement in men's Grand Slam tennis. Lateral end-range movements that incorporated a change of direction (CoD) were identified for analysis using k-means (end-range) and random forest (CoD) machine learning models.

Optimizing operating room (OR) utilization is critical for enhancing hospital management and operational efficiency. Accurate surgical case duration predictions are essential for achieving this optimization. Our study aimed to refine the accuracy of these predictions beyond traditional estimation methods by developing Random Forest models tailored to specific surgical departments.
