The AP-1 family member BATF maintains immune cell function. Two recent papers by Zhang et al. and Itahashi et al. investigated the role of this protein in cancer immunity, finding that its depletion in CAR-T cells augments anti-tumor activity and it contributes to Treg-mediated immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment.
