Healthcare providers generate a medical claim after every patient visit. A medical claim consists of a list of medical codes describing the diagnosis and any treatment provided during the visit. Medical claims have been popular in medical research as a data source for retrospective cohort studies. This paper introduces a medical claim visualization system (MedCV) that supports cohort selection from medical claim data. MedCV was developed as part of a design study in collaboration with clinical researchers and statisticians. It helps a researcher to define inclusion rules for cohort selection by revealing relationships between medical codes and visualizing medical claims and patient timelines. Evaluation of our system through a user study indicates that MedCV enables domain experts to define high-quality inclusion rules in a time-efficient manner.

Background: The treatment landscape for active ulcerative colitis is rapidly evolving and current real-world evidence on response to advanced therapy is limited. This study aimed to determine indicators of inadequate therapeutic response among patients with ulcerative colitis in Germany initiating advanced therapy.
Methods: This retrospective analysis used German claims data (2015-2022) from adult patients (≥ 18 years).
Objectives: To assess the impact of a positive history of venous thromboembolism (VTE) on perioperative outcomes, including length of in-hospital stay, readmission rates, 90-day postoperative complications, and healthcare costs in bladder cancer (BCa) patients undergoing transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) in the United States.
Patients And Methods: Patients aged ≥18 years with a BCa diagnosis undergoing TURBT were identified in the Merative® Marketscan® Research de-identified databases between 2007 and 2021. Multivariable logistic regression adjusted by relevant perioperative confounders was used to investigate the association between diagnosis of VTE before TURBT and 90-day complication rates, new postoperative VTE events, re-hospitalization, and total hospital expenditures (2021 US dollars).

Objectives: To determine predictors of treatment success and complications following intradetrusor onabotulinumtoxinA injections among a large cohort of nursing home (NH) residents, representing one of the most frail and vulnerable populations in the United States.
Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of long-stay NH residents who underwent onabotulinumtoxinA injections between 2014 and 2016. Residents were identified using the Minimum Data Set (MDS) linked to Medicare claims.

Brachial plexus birth palsy, a devastating injury affecting newborns, has long been a source of contention and misunderstanding. This article aims to dispel the myth that healthcare providers are solely responsible for these injuries, presenting evidence that highlights the complex interplay of maternal, fetal, and biological factors in their causation. By shifting the narrative away from blame and towards a more comprehensive understanding, we can foster a more supportive and informed approach to childbirth.

Nutritional quality of food for infants and young children (FIYC) is key to optimum development and health. To evaluate commercial FIYC products, the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (WHO-EURO) has defined a Nutrient and Promotion Profile Model (NPPM). Although FIYC is commonly used in Malaysia, its quality is largely unknown.
