The rational design of functional plasmonic metasurfaces and metamaterials requires the development of high-throughput characterization techniques compatible with operando conditions and capable of addressing single-nanostructures. In their work, Wei et al. demonstrate the use of electrochemiluminescence microscopy to investigate the mechanism behind plasmon-enhanced luminescence induced by gold nanostructures. The use of gold plasmonic arrays was exploited to achieve the rapid spectroscopic evaluation of all the individual nanostructures, and the correlation of the results with high- resolution electron microscopy analysis, guaranteeing a strict one-to-one correspondence. The authors were able to identify two different mechanisms for the enhancement of [Ru(bpy) ] -tri-n-propylamine electrochemiluminescence mediated by single gold nanoparticles and by small plasmonic clusters. In the future, the proposed characterization could be used for the rapid and in situ spectroscopic analysis of more complex plasmonic nanostructures and metasurfaces.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of mortality in low-resource settings and poses a diagnostic challenge in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative populations because of limitations in traditional diagnostic methods such as sputum smear microscopy (SSM) and sputum Xpert Ultra. There is a lack of effective, non-invasive diagnostic options for TB diagnosis in HIV-negative populations. This scoping review explores the potential of urinary lipoarabinomannan (ULAM) as a point-of-care diagnostic tool for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) in HIV-negative individuals.

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) is nowadays a powerful technique widely used in biosensing and imaging, offering high sensitivity and specificity for detecting and mapping biomolecules. Screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) offer a versatile and cost-effective platform for ECL applications due to their ease of fabrication, disposability, and suitability for large-scale production. This research introduces a novel method for improving the ECL characteristics of screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) through the application of CO laser treatment following fabrication.

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) microscopy has emerged as a powerful technique for single-cell imaging owing to its unparalleled background-free imaging advantages. However, controlled intracellular ECL imaging remains challenging. Here, we developed a stimuli-responsive self-assembled DNA nanomachine that enables the ECL imaging of intracellular target biomolecules in single cells.

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of the conventional system of [Ru(bpy)] luminophore and amine-based coreactants is particularly inefficient on noble metal electrodes. This is due to the formation of a passivating oxide layer on the metal surface inhibiting the electro-oxidation of amines like tri-n-propylamine (TPrA) coreactant. Herein, we demonstrated the enhancement of ECL emission on gold surface by hydroxyl radicals attack that are chemically generated with Cu-Fenton reagent.

Visual electrochemiluminescence (ECL) has emerged as a prominent diagnostic method for accurately quantifying various disease markers even at point of care setting with high sensitivity and accuracy. It does not employ complicated instruments such as potentiostat and expensive imaging microscopy for quantifying trace amounts of molecules. The ECL system offers significant advantages over other detection processes, such as high sensitivity, selectivity, rapid response, multiplexing, and miniaturization capabilities, making it well-suited for future commercialization.
