Background: Pediatric ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous liver biopsy is a commonly performed procedure in children, and may be performed in a variety of clinical settings. However, there is little research on the relative costs associated with different sedation methods and locations.
Objective: This study uses time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) to identify relevant costs associated with different biopsy sedation techniques and locations to help inform providers and patients as well as guide value-conscious care.

Background: Inhalational anesthetic agents are a major source of potent greenhouse gases in the medical sector, and reducing their emissions is a readily addressable goal. Nitrous oxide (NO) has a long environmental half-life relative to carbon dioxide combined with a low clinical potency, leading to relatively large amounts of NO being stored in cryogenic tanks and H cylinders for use, increasing the chance of pollution through leaks. Building on previous findings, Stanford Health Care's (SHC's) NO emissions were analyzed at 2 campuses and targeted for waste reduction as a precursor to system-wide reductions.

Obesity is characterized by an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure that triggers abnormal growth of adipose tissues. Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) and its primary active metabolite, monomethyl fumarate (MMF), are Nrf2 activators and have been recognized as strategic antioxidants. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of MMF and DMF to interfere with adipogenesis and obesity, and identify the molecular mechanisms involved.

Introduction: Non-invasive respiratory support strategies have evolved to avoid bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm infants. However, consensus on the best treatment strategy remains lacking. This study aims to investigate current practices and variations in primary respiratory support for extremely preterm neonates across neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in the Netherlands.

Elderly patients with multiple concomitant chronic diseases are the particularly vulnerable during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic, which accounts for a large number of COVID-19-related deaths. The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) on in-hospital mortality in a secondary hospital in China. A cross-sectional, retrospective study was conducted using electronic medical data collected from Shanghai Gonghui Hospital from April 2022 to June 2022.
