Objective: To investigate the association of maternal race/ethnicity with risk factors for brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI) and quantify the proportion of excess BPBI risk due to these factors.
Study Design: This retrospective cohort study of all livebirths occurring in California-licensed hospitals from 1996-2012 included 6,278,562 maternal-livebirth infant pairs with 7762 BPBI diagnoses. Multiple logistic regression and causal mediation analyses were used to evaluate the relationship of race/ethnicity and BPBI risk factors.

Background: Trauma to the anal sphincter following vaginal birth increases the risk of anal incontinence. Laxative management in the postnatal period is recommended to improve defecation and reduce the risk of wound breakdown. Research underpinning management guidelines is lacking and omits end-users (clinicians and birthing women) involvement in evaluating pilot studies.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the quality and reliability of YouTube videos on obstetric perineal tears.
Method: We chose six keywords: "tearing birth", "perineal trauma", "perineal laceration", "perineal tear", "obstetrical anal sphincter injuries (OASIS)" and "vaginal tear". Each video that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed by two independent raters.

Background: Premier Rugby Sevens (PR7S) is a new professional rugby league. Our study aims to examine injury data from PR7S over the last 3 years to clarify the incidence of injury per event and determine any trends within injuries to specific body regions related to both sex and year of competition. Understanding these injury patterns will assure relevant player education campaigns related to injury awareness, inform sex-specific injury prevention strategies, and help medical professionals care for athletes more effectively in future competitions.

Brain development involves the sequential expression of vulnerable biological processes including cell proliferation, programmed cell death, neuronal migration, synapse and functional unit formation. All these processes involve gene and activity-dependent events that can be distorted by many extrinsic and intrinsic environmental factors, including stress, microbiota, inflammatory signals, hormonal signals and epigenetic factors, hence leading to disorders born in the womb that are manifested later in autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Predicting and treating such disorders call for a conceptual framework that includes all aspects of developmental biology.
