Copper-based catalysts have different catalytic properties depending on the oxidation states of Cu. We report operando observations of the Cu(111) oxidation processes using near-ambient pressure scanning tunneling microscopy (NAP-STM) and near-ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP-XPS). The Cu(111) surface was chemically inactive to water vapor, but only physisorption of water molecules was observed by NAP-STM. Under O environments, dry oxidation started at the step edges and proceeded to the terraces as a CuO phase. Humid oxidation of the HO/O gas mixture was also promoted at the step edges to the terraces. After the CuO covered the surface under humid conditions, hydroxides and adsorbed water layers formed. NAP-STM observations showed that CuO was generated at lower steps in dry oxidation with independent terrace oxidations, whereas CuO was generated at upper steps in humid oxidation. The difference in the oxidation mechanisms was caused by water molecules. When the surface was entirely oxidized, the diffusion of Cu and O atoms with a reconstruction of the CuO structures induced additional subsurface oxidation. NAP-XPS measurements showed that the CuO thickness in dry oxidation was greater than that in humid oxidation under all pressure conditions.

Sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI) is a common acute and severe reason of death in the intensive care unit. Although the pathogenesis is complicated and multifactorial, elevated inflammation and oxidative stress are considered as fundamental mechanisms for the progression of ALI. Anemonin is a natural compound with diverse biological properties including anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects.

Aeolian sandy soil is barren and readily leads to low fertilizer utilization rates and yields. Therefore, it is imperative to improve the water and fertilizer retention capacity of these soils. In this paper, three kinds of biochar (rice husk, corn stalk, and bamboo charcoal) and bentonite were used as amendments in the first year of the experiment.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of Moisture Chamber Goggles combined with Fluorometholone eye drops on visual function and oxidative stress in patients with dry eye disease.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 80 patients with dry eye disease treated at Ninghai First Hospital from January 2021 to May 2023. Patients were divided into a combination group (n=40, receiving Fluorometholone eye drops and Moisture Chamber Goggles) and a monotherapy group (n=40, receiving Fluorometholone eye drops alone) based on treatment regimens.

The extent of coordination-induced bond weakening in aquo and hydroxo ligands bonded to a molybdenum(III) center complexed by a dianionic, pentadentate ligand system was probed by reacting the known complex (BPzPy)Mo(III)-NTf, , with degassed water or dry lithium hydroxide. The aquo adduct was not observed, but two LiNTf-stabilized hydroxo complexes were fully characterized. Computational and experimental work showed that the O-H bond in these complexes was significantly weakened (to ≈57 kcal mol), such that these compounds could be used to form the diamagnetic, neutral terminal molybdenum oxo complex (BPzPy)Mo(IV)O, , by hydrogen atom abstraction using the aryl oxyl reagent ArO• (Ar = 2,4,6-tri--butylphenyl).

Dry eye disease is a multifactorial condition characterized by a loss of homeostasis of the tear film. Among the various treatment approaches, the application of ophthalmic oil-in-water nanoemulsions with incorporated anti-inflammatory drugs represents one of the most advanced approaches. However, the liquid nature of nanoemulsions limits their retention time at the ocular surface.
