The effects of Vibrant Lives, a 6-month worksite-weight-loss program, were examined in a cohort of school-district employees with overweight or obesity. The VL Basic (VLB) participants received materials and tailored text messages, the VL Plus (VLP) participants additionally received WIFI-enabled activity monitors and scales and participated in health challenges throughout the school year, and the VL Plus with Support (VLP + S) participants additionally received coaching support. The levels of program satisfaction and retention and changes in weight, physical activity (PA), and diet were compared across groups using Pearson chi-square tests, repeated-measure mixed models, and logistic regression. After the program, the VLB ( = 131), VLP ( = 87), and VLP + S ( = 88) groups had average weight losses of 2.5, 2.5, and 3.4 kg, respectively, and average increases in weekly PA of 40.4, 35.8, and 65.7 min, respectively. The VLP + S participants were more likely than the other participants to have clinically significant weight loss (≥3%; = 0.026). Compared with the VLB participants, the VLP participants were less likely to meet the recommendations for consuming fast food ( = 0.022) and sugar-sweetened beverages ( = 0.010). The VLP and VLP + S participants reported higher program satisfaction than the VLB participants. The VL program facilitates weight loss among school-district employees with overweight and obesity by increasing their PA and healthy diet.

Purpose: The present study aims at exploring the effect of pitch, loudness, vowel, and voice condition on supraglottic activity among female participants with voice disorders and among female participants with normal voices.
Methods: Forty-four volunteers were recruited. Inclusion criteria for the dysphonic group were: 1) age between 20 and 50 years, 2) reporting at least 1 year-long history of voice problems, 3) moderate or severe dysphonia.

The numerous high-risk carcinogenic types of human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) that lack vaccine protection underscore the urgent need to develop broader-spectrum HPV vaccines. This study addresses this need by focusing on HR-HPV types 53, 56, and 66, which are not currently targeted by existing vaccines. It introduces an effective method for their soluble expression, as well as that of their mutants, within an Escherichia coli expression system.

Background: Egypt has the highest global prevalence of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection, particularly of genotype 4. The development of a prophylactic vaccine remains crucial for HCV eradication, yet no such vaccine currently exists due to the vaccine development challenges. The ability of Virus-Like Particles (VLPs) to mimic the native virus and incorporate neutralizing and conformational epitopes, while effectively engaging both humoral and cellular immune responses, makes them a promising approach to addressing the challenges in HCV vaccine development.

Several strategies have been developed in recent years to improve virus-like particle (VLP)-based vaccine production processes. Among these, the metabolic engineering of cell lines has been one of the most promising approaches. Based on previous work and a proteomic analysis of HEK293 cells producing Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1 (HIV-1) Gag VLPs under transient transfection, four proteins susceptible of enhancing VLP production were identified: ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM), ataxia telangiectasia and rad3-related (ATR), DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit (DNA-PKcs), and retinal rod rhodopsin-sensitive cGMP 3',5'-cyclic phosphodiesterase subunit delta (PDEδ).

Background: Metagenome-assembled viral genomes have significantly advanced the discovery and characterization of the human gut virome. However, we lack a comparative assessment of assembly tools on the efficacy of viral genome identification, particularly across next-generation sequencing (NGS) and third-generation sequencing (TGS) data.
Results: We evaluated the efficiency of NGS, TGS, and hybrid assemblers for viral genome discovery using 95 viral-like particle (VLP)-enriched fecal samples sequenced on both Illumina and PacBio platforms.
