This study aimed to verify the role of variants (c.-1638G>A, c.-1347C>T, c.29C>T, and c.74G>C) in HPV infection susceptibility and cervical lesions development, and their impact on TGFB1 cervical and plasma levels. genotypes were assessed with PCR-RFLP and haplotypes were inferred for 190 HPV-uninfected and 161 HPV-infected women. TGFB1 levels were determined with immunofluorimetric assay. Case-control analyses were performed with logistic regression adjusted for possible confounders. Women carrying -1347TT or -1347CT+TT as well as those with 29CT, 29CC, or 29CT+CC were more likely to have HPV than -1347CC and 29TT carriers, respectively. Regarding haplotypes, the most frequent were *4 (GCTG) and *3 (GTCG). Women *4/*4 were less likely to have HPV than those with no *4 copy. Comparing the inheritance of *3 and *4, carriers of *3/*4 or *3/*3 were more susceptible to HPV than *4/*4. The TGFB1 plasma and cervical levels were higher in the infected patients. Plasma levels were also higher in infected women with low-grade lesions. HPV-infected patients carrying *3/Other and *3/Other+*3/*3 presented lower TGFB1 plasma levels than those with no copy of *3. TGFB1 variants could contribute to the comprehension of the TGFB1 role in HPV-caused cervical disease.

Background: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is associated with increased cardiovascular risk, but its influence on plaque characteristics at optical coherence tomography (OCT) evaluation is not fully understood.
Aims: This study seeks to explore the impact of Lp(a) levels on plaque morphology as assessed by OCT in a very high-risk subset of patients.
Methods: Consecutive patients admitted for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and undergoing OCT-guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) at a large tertiary care center between 2019 and 2022 were deemed eligible for the current analysis.

Objective: While earlier research has indicated that trans fatty acids (TFAs) are detrimental to cardiovascular health as well as other conditions, the purpose of this study is to look into any possible connections between trans fatty acids and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Methods: The NHANES database provided the data for this study, covering two periods: 1999-2000 and 2009-2010. The correlation between plasma TFAs (linolelaidic acid, vaccenic acid, palmitelaidic acid, and elaidic acid) and RA was examined using weighted univariate and multivariate regression analyses as well as analysis of subgroups.

Background: Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder, accompanied by multiple endocrine neoplasms of the parathyroid, pancreas, pituitary, and other neoplasms in the adrenal glands. However, in some cases, patients clinically diagnosed with MEN1 may be genotype-negative.
Case Presentation: A 56-year-old female was diagnosed with MEN1 based on a macroprolactinoma (19 mm in diameter), primary hyperparathyroidism, and a cortisol-producing adrenal adenoma, without a family history.

Cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic that causes acute kidney injury in over 30% of patients. The aim of this study was to develop a population pharmacokinetic/toxicodynamic (PKTD) model of cisplatin-induced kidney injury that incorporated plasma total platinum and urinary kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) concentrations. Cancer patients receiving their first or second round of cisplatin-containing chemotherapy (n=39) were prospectively randomized to a 5-HT antagonist (5-HTA) antiemetic (ondansetron, granisetron, or palonosetron) and had blood and urine collected over 10 days.

Background: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematological malignancy characterized by the abnormal proliferation of plasma cells. Mitochondrial dysfunction and dysregulated programmed cell death (PCD) pathways have been implicated in MM pathogenesis. However, the precise roles of mitochondria-related genes (MRGs) and PCD-related genes (PCDRGs) in MM prognosis remain unclear.
