A methodology for the synthesis of sulfonyl hydrazides mediated by hypervalent iodine is described. Taking advantage of the umpolung properties of hypervalent iodine reagents, the polarity of sodium sulfinate salts is reversed, and a key intermediate is generated and reacted with mono- and disubstituted hydrazines. To highlight the practical utility of this protocol, a diverse range of sulfonyl hydrazides were synthesized in yields up to 62%. Furthermore, a gram-scale reaction was performed, showing the robustness of the procedure. Mechanistic studies, including DFT calculations, were performed and the bioactivity of the generated compounds was evaluated.

A solvent-controlled unprecedented tandem reaction of readily accessible SeO, a wide variety of sulfonyl hydrazides, and alkynes has been established for the chemodivergent construction of structurally complex 1,2-bis(()-1-aryl-2-arylsulfonylvinyl)diselanes and bis(()-1-aryl-2-(arylsulfonyl)vinyl)selanes via a catalyst-free one-pot three-component approach, respectively. The adjustable and controlled synthetic strategy shows good yields and chemoselectivities for most substrates under mild and simple conditions.

Pyridazine derivatives hold significant interest due to their broad applications in pharmaceuticals and materials science, where they serve as valuable scaffolds for bioactive compounds and functional materials. Here, we report a formal [4 + 2] reaction for the synthesis of 5'-sulfonyl-4'-aryl-3-cyano substituted pyridazine compounds from the reaction between vinylogous enaminonitriles and sulfonyl hydrazides. The key features of our pyridazine synthesis include the transamidation of vinylogous enaminonitriles with sulfonyl hydrazide, radical sulfonylation of the resulting intermediate, and subsequent 6-endo-trig radical cyclization.

Light-Induced Transformations of Donor-Donor Diazo Compounds Derived from N-Sulfonylhydrazones.

Department of Chemistry, Laboratory of Organic Synthesis & Catalysis, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee, Uttarakhand, 247667, India.

The donor-donor carbene chemistry field is underdeveloped and often relies on harsh reaction conditions, utilizing either thermal or oxidative process with or without transition-metal catalysts. In this review, we discussed the synthesis and transformation of donor-donor diazo compounds from N-sulfonylhydrazones in the presence of light and base. The N-sulfonylhydrazones are easily accessible from the corresponding carbonyl compounds and sulfonyl hydrazides through condensation.

A Cr/ClO-enhanced fluorescent probe, DNS (5-(dimethylamino)-N'-(2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethoxybenzylidene)-naphthalene-1-sulfonyl hydrazide), with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties was synthesized using dansylhydrazide and 4,6-dimethoxysalicylaldehyde as starting materials. The probe rapidly and selectively detects Cr and ClO in a solvent system of HO/DMSO (2:8). Upon binding with Cr/ClO, the probe exhibits a significant fluorescence enhancement, with minimal interference from other ions.

Syndiotactic Polyolefins by Hydrogenation of Highly Stereoregular 1,2 Polydienes: Synthesis and Structural Characterization.

Polymers (Basel)

September 2024

CNR-Istituto di Scienze e Tecnologie Chimiche "Giulio Natta" (SCITEC), Via A. Corti 12, I-20133 Milano, Italy.

Some syndiotactic-rich polyolefins, generally difficult to synthesize through stereospecific polymerization of the corresponding monomers, were prepared by homogeneous non-catalytic hydrogenation of syndiotactic 1,2 poly(1,3-diene)s with diimide, arising from thermal decomposition of p-toluene-sulfonyl-hydrazide. All the polymers synthesized were structurally characterized by means of several analytical techniques, such as FT-IR, NMR (H, C and 2D), DSC, and GPC, and herein illustrated.
