Background: Honey is described as a wound healing agent. Many virtues have been attributed to it, in particular, antibacterial properties. The aim of our study was to evaluate its value in healing of wounds after wide excision on pilonidal cyst healing.
Methods: A prospective randomized trial was conducted from March 2016 to February 2022 which included patients with a persistent non healed wound which required packing 6 weeks after pilonidal cyst excision. Patients were randomly allocated to simple alginate wick dressings or the same design plus honey.
Results: Fifty patients were included in each arm. There were 57 men and 43 women. The median age was 22 years (range 19-28 years). The mean healing time was 61 (± 44) days in the wick + honey group compared to 78 (± 55) days in the simple alginate wick group (p = 0.094). There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of time off work and time without physical activity The VQ-Dermato quality of life score was equivalent in both groups.
Conclusions: Tolerability for honey dressings is good and is equivalent to that of alginate dressings in cavity wound care. This trial did not reach a significant difference in its primary endpoint but it shows the value of honey in this indication, although its use requires further study.
Trial Registration Number: CLINICAL TRIALS: NCT02485860 and EUDRACT: 2015-A00452-47 (10/03/2015).

Objective: The aim of this study is to comprehensively evaluate the efficacy of laser ablation and crystallized phenol application in the treatment of pilonidal sinus disease, focusing on treatment success, recurrence rates, complications, and the patients' return to normal life.
Material And Method: Data from patients treated for pilonidal sinus disease with laser ablation and crystallized phenol application at our clinic between January 2020 and September 2023 were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative data including pit counts, disease stage, preoperative pilonidal abscess history, disease duration (week), treatment success, recurrence/persistent disease, postoperative complications, healing time (days), and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores on postoperative days 1 and 7, as well as return to normal life (days), were analyzed.

We present a male patient in his early 70s with a cyclical 20-year history of a nodular papule affecting the left forefoot. On examination, ginger red-coloured hairs were evident within the sinus tract, correlating with the patient's short-haired Hungarian Vizsla dogs. Histology confirmed the diagnosis of pilonidal sinus.

Background: Pilonidal sinus disease (PSD) is a chronic debilitating condition predominantly affecting young men. Laser hair depilation is an established adjunct to surgical treatment for PSD and can lead to reduced rates of recurrence, and post-surgical interventions. This study aimed to assess the outcome of laser hair depilation therapy on disease progression in pilonidal sinus disease patients at the Birmingham Skin Regional Laser Centre.

Aim: Pilonidal sinus disease (PSD) poses significant treatment challenges due to a lack of consensus on the diverse range of surgical approaches routinely employed, prompting a renewed focus on the patient experience. The aim of this study was to explore the lived experience of patients with PSD to better inform future person-centred treatment.
Method: A systematic review was performed to identify papers reporting qualitative studies on the lived experience of PSD.
