This case report describes a 70-year-old male presenting with limb weakness, urinary retention and tandem cervical and lumbar spinal stenosis with complicating white cord syndrome, a rare reperfusion injury post decompression surgery. Initially admitted following an unwitnessed fall, the patient's neurological examination indicated that progressive weakness of the limbs and sensory loss etiology is cervical and lumbar spondylosis with severe spinal canal stenosis, confirmed by imaging. Due to rapid deterioration, he underwent C5 corpectomy, cervical decompression and fusion.

Malignant triton tumor (MTT), a subtype of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, is a rare soft-tissue sarcoma with a difficult diagnosis and poor prognosis. The course of MTT progression is rapid and the degree of malignancy is high. Patients with MTT can be treated with postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy; however, treatment results are still poor.

Serum levels of the tumor marker CA 19-9 are widely utilized in the diagnosis and monitoring pancreatic and biliary malignancies. However, serum levels of CA 19-9 have also been reportedly elevated in non-malignant conditions. Here, we present the rare case of a 65-year-old woman with a history of gallbladder malignancy who was found to have a new hepatic lesion on surveillance CT with an associated elevation in CA 19-9 to 5,866 U/mL.

The rapid development of therapies for severe and rare genetic conditions underlines the need to incorporate first-tier genetic testing into newborn screening (NBS) programs. A workflow was developed to screen newborns for 165 treatable pediatric disorders by deep sequencing of regions of interest in 405 genes. The prospective observational BabyDetect pilot project was launched in September 2022 in a maternity ward of a public hospital in the Liege area, Belgium.
