A 73-year-old man taking lanthanum carbonate for hemodialysis showed progressing gastric mucosal changes with lanthanum deposition. Regular examination revealed concurrent gastric carcinoma. The extent and depth of its invasion were ambiguous because of the surrounding lanthanum deposition. Furthermore, there could be other potent carcinomas, and curative laparoscopic gastrectomy was performed.

Introduction: Hyperphosphatemia in advanced CKD often accompanies high PTH and FGF23 levels, impaired bone mineralization, ectopic calcifications, and increased cardiovascular risks. Novel treatments are now available to lower serum phosphorus effectively. However, safety, tolerability, and patient adherence must be evaluated to determine the best therapeutic option for hyperphosphatemia.

Nanocrystalline Lanthanum Oxide Layers on Tubes Synthesized Using the Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition Technique.

Materials (Basel)

November 2024

Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, AGH University of Krakow, al. A. Mickiewicza 30, 30-059 Krakow, Poland.

Lanthanum oxide (LaO) layers are widely used in electronics, optics, and optoelectronics due to their properties. Lanthanum oxide is also used as a dopant, modifying and improving the properties of other materials in the form of layers, as well as having a large volume. In this work, lanthanum oxide layers were obtained using MOCVD (Metalorganic Chemical Vapor Deposition) on the inner walls of tubular substrates at 600-750 °C.

Up to 5% of patients with newly diagnosed celiac disease have negative serology. Although seronegative celiac, is the most common cause for villous atrophy, there are other differential diagnoses that should be ruled out when we find villous blunting without positive serology for celiac disease. The aetiologies are usually divided into 5 categories: immune-mediated, infectious, iatrogenic, inflammatory and infiltrative.

A multifunctional self-supporting LLTO/C interlayer for high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries.

Dalton Trans

December 2024

Key Laboratory for Photonic and Electronic Bandgap Materials, Ministry of Education, School of Physics and Electronic Engineering, Harbin Normal University, Harbin 150025, PR China.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are recognized as an encouraging alternative for future power storage technologies. However, their practical application is hindered by several significant challenges, including slow redox kinetics, the shuttle effect, and the formation of lithium dendrites. Here a binder-free, self-supporting multifunctional interlayer composed of lithium lanthanum titanate (LLTO) with amorphous carbon nanofiber matrices for Li-S batteries has been constructed.

Article Synopsis
  • The dry reforming of methane (DRM) process is gaining importance for reducing greenhouse gases (CH and CO) while producing syngas amid global warming concerns.
  • Strontium-promoted Lanthanum-zirconia supported Ni catalysts were studied and showed different types of CO-interacting species, impacting their effectiveness in the DRM reactions.
  • To optimize hydrogen yield (around 60% in 420 minutes), it's vital to balance the active Ni sites and CO-interacting components in the catalyst.
