Background: Pregnancy related hypertension is a leading cause of preventable maternal morbidity and mortality in the US, with consistently higher rates affecting racial minorities. Many complications are preventable with timely treatment, in alignment with the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health's Patient Safety Bundle ("Bundle"). The Bundle has been implemented successfully in inpatient settings, but 30% of preeclampsia-related morbidity occurs in outpatient settings in North Carolina.

The roles of sex hormones in CVD outcomes and gut microbiome in modifying these effects are poorly understood. The XCVD study examines gut microbiome mediation of sex hormone effects on CVD risk markers by observing transgender participants undergoing gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), with findings expected to extrapolate to cisgender populations.

One of the most studied social mechanisms concerns how telework alters the transmission of social support between family members and coworkers, which turns out to be a mediating factor between teleworking and well-being. This research contributes to the understanding of this issue by analysing the existing evidence on the effect of telework on social support and well-being before, during and after the pandemic.
