The current work presents the development of hybrid glass fiber reinforced polyester resin (GFRPs) composite. The composite integrates functionalized carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) with glass fiber (GF) using polyester resin as a media. Hand lay-up method was adopted to prepare GFRPs samples in the form of rectangular sheets. Morphological characteristics of the GFRPs were investigated through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), to analyze the f-MWCNTs distribution and agglomeration of the developed composite's surface due to varying concentrations from 0.0 to 0.5 wt.%. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were performed to confirm the presence of f-MWCNTs in the developed GFRPs. Sample with 0.4 wt. % f-MWCNTs showed the highest tensile strength and impact energy of 79 MPa, indicating a 31.66% improvement and 1.6 Nm with 77% improvement, respectively as compared to the control sample (0.wt.% f-MWCNT). The same sample also showed the thermal stability till 390 °C as measured through thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Deposition of extra 10 layers initially increased the composite strength from 40 MPa to 128 MPa, however further increase in layers to 15 resulted decrease in strength to 100 MPa due to the poor interaction between the polyester resin and GF. The addition of f-MWCNTs in the composite effectively strengthens the interfacial bonding, which significantly improved the tensile and impact strength of the composite, making it tougher and thermally stable. However, further increase in the concentration of f-MWCNTs degraded the mechanical properties of developed composite such as compressive strength because of agglomeration of these nanoparticles and void formation in the composite.

In this study, a pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry method was established to quantify microplastics (MPs) released from plastic food containers during rinsing and migration. The inner surface of actual samples was rinsed with deionized water, and the MPs in rinse water were collected through a glass fiber membrane with pore size of 1 μm. Subsequently, thoroughly cleaned polypropylene (PP) food packaging containers were selected for migration tests under different simulants, migration temperatures, and migration times.

To promote the recycling of waste glass and satisfy the demands of environmental sustainability for ultrahigh performance concrete (UHPC), in this study, glass sand was employed to partially or entirely replace machine-made sand, and steel fibres were incorporated to fabricate ultrahigh performance shotcrete (UHPS). The effects of glass sand and steel fibres on the mechanical and electrical properties of composite materials were analysed in this study. Furthermore, alkali‒silica reaction (ASR) tests and microstructural analyses were conducted.

Five commercially available cut-resistant gloves were sourced from four different worldwide manufacturers which were advertised to contain graphene. A method was developed to assess the fibers composing each glove, including dissolution of the constituent fibers using sulfuric acid or liquid paraffin at elevated temperature, to extract and analyze particle additives. Scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was applied to fibers and extracted particles for morphological and elemental analysis; Raman spectroscopy was applied to discern the composition of carbonaceous materials for the ultimate purpose of identifying any graphenic additives.

Cellulose has outstanding potential for application in energy storage batteries due to its high temperature resistance, high electrolyte affinity, renewability, and suppression of the shuttle effect, but single cellulose membranes still suffer from problems such as inhomogeneous pore distribution and unstable three-dimensional network structure. In this study, a green and sustainable regenerative cellulose (RC)/sodium alginate (SA) gel electrolyte membrane is developed by sol-gel process, the double crosslinked network scaffold centered on Zn was constructed by the synergistic hydrogen-bonding and metal ion- coordination network, the stable and uniform pore structure was also formed. The obtained RC-SA gel electrolyte membrane exhibits outstanding performance, featuring a dual crosslinked network with abundant pore structure and numerous polar groups that effectively enhance Zn transport, significantly improving battery cycling performance.

A novel whispering-gallery mode (WGM) sensor is fabricated by coupling a tapered two-mode fiber and a glass capillary. By utilizing the relatively large orifice of glass capillaries, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and magnetic fluid are directly injected into two WGM structured glass capillaries, respectively, allowing these materials to substantially interact with the light field of the WGM, thereby achieving temperature, pressure, and magnetic field measurements. λ1 and λ2 are the two resonant peak wavelengths of the WGM after injecting PDMS into a glass capillary.
