Kratom is an herb with opioid-like properties that has become readily available in the United States and is being used for self-management of pain and opioid withdrawal. We present a case of common bile duct dilation secondary to use of kratom. Our suspicion is that the mu-opioid agonism associated with kratom use resulted in effects similar to what might be seen in opiate-induced biliary ductal dilation.

Background: The aim of this study was to explore the clinical value of serum procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in evaluating complications after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in patients with common bile duct (CBD) stones.
Methods: Patients who were diagnosed with CBD stones and underwent ERCP from December 2021 to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects. According to whether postoperative complications occurred, they were divided into complication group (n = 28) and non-complication group (n = 132).

Background: Currently, there is limited scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of fluorescent cholangiography in emergency cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis. The primary aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of near-infrared fluorescent cholangiography (NIRF-C) in different severity degrees of acute cholecystitis.
Materials And Methods: Inclusion criteria were patients with a clinical and radiological (abdominal ultrasound and/or computed tomography) diagnosis of acute cholecystitis based on the revised 2018 Tokyo guidelines who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy within 24-72 h from the onset of symptoms and patients with ASA score of 0-3.

Portal hypertension (PH) can cause severe complications in patients with advanced chronic liver disease (aCLD). The pan-peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (pan-PPAR) agonist lanifibranor reduces portal pressure in preclinical models of aCLD. Since the effect on PH might be secondary to fibrosis improvement, we investigated the effect of lanifibranor on PH, hepatic and splanchnic angiogenesis in mouse models of fibrotic and prehepatic non-fibrotic PH.

Liquid crystal monomers (LCMs) of different chemical structures were widely detected in various environmental matrices. However, their health risk evaluation is lacking. Herein, three representative LCMs were selected from 74 LCM candidates upon literature review and acute cytotoxicity evaluation, then were exposed to the three LCMs for 42 days at doses of 0.

Common pancreatobiliary epithelial malignancies such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder carcinoma have poor prognosis. A small but significant portion of these malignancies arise from mass-forming grossly and radiologically visible premalignant epithelial neoplasms in the pancreatobiliary tree. Several lesions, including a few recently described entities, fall under this category and predominantly include papillary epithelial lesions with or without mucin production.
