Microsporidia is a phylum of intracellular parasites that secrete spores and stay in water sources. These parasites can cause infection in humans by invading the digestive system, the urinary system, the muscular system and the eye. Recently, the Israeli Ministry of Health announced that dozens of people in Israel were suspected of being infected with microsporidial keratitis after bathing in the waters of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee). Here we present a brief overview of this microsporidial keratitis as well as three case presentations.

Purpose: To assess the clinical characteristics, progression patterns, and treatment outcomes of microbiologically confirmed microsporidial keratoconjunctivitis (MKC).
Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study included patients with superficial punctate epithelial keratitis clinically suspected of MKC. Comprehensive slit-lamp examinations were conducted, and corneal scraping was performed for Gram-chromotrope staining and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis.

Purpose: To elucidate a distinctive clinical feature in cases of microsporidial stromal keratitis (MSK).
Method: A retrospective observational study of cases with a histopathological and/or microbiological diagnosis of MSK on corneal biopsy or host corneal button between 2016 and 2022 was conducted.
Results: Eighteen cases with a confirmed histopathological and/or microbiological diagnosis of MSK were detected.
